How can you explain love to a kid?

Love is a set of emotions and behaviours characterised by intimacy, passion, and commitment. It involves care, closeness, protectiveness, attraction, affection, and trust. Love can vary in intensity and can change over time. It is associated with a range of positive emotions, including happiness, excitement, life satisfaction, and euphoria, but it can also result in negative emotions such as jealousy, stress and feeling emotionally and mentally hurt.

If this is what we say, they will probably not understand. Even adults cannot give an exact explanation of the word love, because no word can explain what it really is. What caused it, and why do we feel it?

But not only is the word "love" difficult to explain, but also "death" or "dead."

How can you explain to a 4-year-old kid what the word "dead" means?

"Daddy, what is dead?"

That's the first question Reiko asked after he saw his dad, Wakasa, fixing his tie in front of the mirror, two days after their little girl was born.

"It's like the robot we gave you," Wakasa started, and he looked at him through the reflection in the mirror. "When it runs out of battery, you can't use it again."

"But we can still change its battery and have mommy with us again together with my baby sister!"

Wakasa held back his tears so that Reiko could not see them. Everything went fast. It feels like it was just yesterday when they were so happy with each other, having endless love, unstoppable hugs, and enjoyable talks, and in just a second, everything was gone. His wife, Y/N Imaushi, is gone.

"Mommy is not a robot, Rei." He wiped his tears quickly and went to see if Rei was ready to go. "Let's go to Mommy now. She must be waiting for us."

"Yey! I already miss my mommy and I want to hug and see her! "

Maybe this wasn't a good reunion for Rei and Y/N, the woman who he treated as his mom and loved him unconditionally. Before, she would greet him with big smiles, many kisses, and tight hugs. Now he just stares at her, lying on her coffin and wearing a white dress.

"Mommy, let's play. Why are you still sleeping? " He pouted and looked at the glass of Y/N's coffin so hard that you would think he was trying to wake her up. "Daddy, take Mommy out; her bed is too small."

He gives his daughter to Koshi and puts Rei down in the chair he used to reach the coffin.

"Mommy needs to go somewhere, and she can't be with us starting now."

"Is Mommy-leaving us?" Wakasa hugged Reiko after seeing how the tears formed in his eyes and when his voice cracked. Even Wakasa couldn't stop his eyes from shedding tears once again. "I don't want Mommy to leave!"
