Death and Rebirth

I opened my eyes into a world of darkness.

At least, that's what would have happened if I had eyes.

In fact, I don't have an actual body right now.

I'm just a conscience, aware of the void around me, but oblivious to anything outside of my own perceived reality.

How long has it been since I've become aware of that?

Who knows? Maybe it's been days, or months. Maybe it's even been years. Or I could have just realized it. After all, there is no concept of time in this empty space.

What is my purpose here?

I had always believed that everything happened for a reason.

The only thing I couldn't find a reason for was my death-

Oh.

Right.

I'm... dead.

It's been a while, or at least I believe so, since I've last thought of my death.

Crushed by a truck. Truly original, huh?

I just...

Why was it in my ceiling?

I lived in a single-story house with no attic, and the roof was an average one that had no place for a truck to be.

And it wasn't there the day before. I would have seen it. And the roof would've been destroyed as well.

So how did a truck crush me through the ceiling?

"That... may have been my fault."

A voice came in from somewhere. I can't exactly say in front of me cause I don't know where that is. I could say the same for the rest of the directions, so therefor, the voice is 'somewhere.'

Also, what does it mean by "it's fault?" Did they teleport a truck on top of my house or something?

"Yes. And I'm truly sorry for that," the voice said in an apologetic tone.

Hold on, this voice can read minds?

"No, I can't," the voice interrupted my line of thought. "It's just that because you are pure conscience, your thoughts are being projected to the space around you."

Can it just... not do that?

"Yes," the voice answered.

And... how?

"Like this," the voice said, and with a snapping sound a body with no features appeared in front of me.

So, what am I supposed to do with this?

"Just think of what you want it to look like, then I'll guide your conscience into the body."

(A/N: You all probably know what's going to happen.)

Ah yes, Beidou supremacy

Ah yes, Beidou supremacy.

"Hmm, I see," the voice said to itself before muttering something incomprehensible.

Eh? What did you say?

"Nothing important," the voice said dismissively. "Now, onto the merging process."

Uh... is this going to hurt?

"Maybe. Who knows..." the voice said in a mischievous tone. "After all, I've never done this before."

Wait what-

PAIN

Pain flooded through my conscience as it connected to the brain and all of its nerves sent a new signal at the same time.

Luckily my eyes were closed, or else that would have been more pain from the new sensory organs.

The pain permeated through my body for a couple more minutes before it reduced to a light tingle. You know that feeling when your leg falls asleep and you try walking on it but it feels really strange? Yeah, that's how I feel, but everywhere.

"So, how's the body?" I heard from my left.

Turning my new body in the direction of his voice, I opened my eyes slightly before giving him an annoyed look.

"What? I did say I've never done this before," the voice stated nervously. "Also, I can't hear your thoughts now, so if you are trying to communicate, I can't hear your thoughts."

"Well at least there's that,"  I thought to myself as I looked at him with eyes that are now wide open.

"So, wanna explain what you want now?" I said in a slightly deeper voice than I was accustomed to hearing.

"Oh, what do you mean?" the voice said in a questioning tone.

"Most people wouldn't go this far for a random person floating in the void," I deadpanned.

"Most people wouldn't be in the void, but you've got a point," the voice said.

"Also what's your name?" I asked him. "I can't just keep calling you 'the voice' in my mind."

"Ah, I knew I forgot something past the immense pain described in the handbook."

"Hold up there was a handbook for merging someone's conscience into an empty body?"

"Yes," came the voice's reply.

"And you forgot that IMMENSE PAIN was described in this handbook?!"

". . . Yes," the voice once again replied.

"That's fucked up," I said, looking in the direction I've assumed this voice came from. "So, what's your name?"

"Shit, I thought you forgot about that-"

"How would I forget about that?! I asked 10 seconds ago!" I told the voice exasperatedly.

"Uhh- you know what enjoy the new world!"

"Wait wha-"

Before I could even finish my question, my body was sucked into a portal that appeared below me.

A/N: So uhh, random people who noticed this story, what do you think? Should I continue this? I know it isn't much, but I made this on a whim.

I was planning to go into an alternate world of Earth where Vtubers exist and gates and stuff from Solo Leveling (Great manhwa btw, if you haven't, should read) exist.

If you wanna see where this might go, please comment...

If you don't I might just not update because of no motivation.

Anyway hope to see you in the next chapter~
