"A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world." - Oscar Wilde
~~
A piercing cold consumed me as I stared into the dark skies above, the stillness of the sky sending strange shivers up and down my spine. My brows furrowed deeply as my eyes were drawn further into the monotonous pattern of the grey sky.
It was only for a second, my eyes shut for just one second but as they opened again a sharp bright light cut through the sad skies above and with it a feverish heat.
My mouth opened in a gasp yet the sound got caught in my throat, a tear escaping yet vaporizing immediately as I watched, the world turning to ash in an instant.
My legs turned swiftly, body reacting instinctively but my fight for life was fruitless. I opened my mouth once again, desperately searching for an escape, my body collapsing under me as I failed to regain my breath.
I rolled onto my back in a daze, my body writhing as the heat skinned the flesh from my bones, dried lungs coughing up a scalding red blood that evaporated the second it touched my cheek.
My vision blurred as my body was engulfed by a red flame, the same bright light blinding me once again as I could do nothing to shield myself, to end this pain.
A shadow rolled over me, I thought it was death at first, or maybe heaven, or maybe hell...
The heat persisted, the shadow doing little to shield me of the sweltering, blistering fire that was determined to smother and burn the little life I had left in me.
My eyes closed tightly, tears immediately swelling under my eyelids. I didn't couldn't fight anymore, I wanted it all to end. I wanted to die.
The red I was trying so desperately to escape followed me, swallowing the pain that flowed out of my being and spitting it back out as a new deadly poison that prolonged the pain.
My mouth opened in a final gasp, the little air I hadn't known I had left in my lungs escaping in an ear numbing scream, my eyes opening in my last moments to find an end to this ever consuming red flame.
Hands found the sides of my face as my scream continued, hands that brought an end to the heat wherever they touched.
I found nothing but darkness staring back at me amongst the ever encumbering red, my body paralyzed, skin flayed as I stared at what I believed was death itself, trying and failing to look away and find some peace before I entered the nothingness I believed would follow me after the end.
A bitter anger rose in my throat as I looked for something, anything, behind the darkness that held me amongst the heat.
A saddened sigh escaped my lips as tears finally escaped my eyes, rolling down the cool dark hands cupping my face, becoming the only solace I could find at the end, at my end.
My eyes moved to the red sky, the pain ending as my ears began to ring, my eyes closing as I caught a glimpse of emerald amongst the darkness, amongst the rogue.
