Today we have prepared an interview with @wigglysubu for you! She answered a few questions about mental health and also about her book "A Little Bit Of Joy". Thank you for the interview!

1. What makes you start writing on Wattpad?

Answer:

I always wanted to write somewhere so when my friend told me about Wattpad at 14, I couldn't resist writing!

2. Your story is about Joy Jonas and Logan Kellerman who both have very tragic lives. Joy is suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and Logan is a young man with suicidal tendencies. What inspires you to write it like this?

Answer:

I thought the contrast between their lives to be interesting and how differently both of them viewed the world due to their experiences of suffering. Everyone's experiences can be different and we can see that in them. Although Joy has only months to live, her resilience pulls her out of a state of complete hopelessness and she has a better outlook on life due to support from family and friends. Whereas Logan, he lacks any support and has been forced to be an adult when he's still only a boy. Together, they're there for each other through thick and thin, understanding life with all it's whims and helping each other grow.

3. What makes a Mental Health concept special and intriguing to write or read about?

Answer:

It's intriguing because it gives us a glimpse into the lives of people who are often stigmatised due to their mental illness and reading about such characters can not only broaden one's perspective in multitudinous ways, but also help one empathise with someone whose experiences of life can be quite distinct from us.

4. Do you have a favorite Mental-Health-related story? Wattpad one or published one?

Answer:

Some of my favourite books include "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath, "Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine" by Gail Honeyman and "A Man Called Ove" by Fredrik Backman. They're all cleverly written and deal with themes of depression, isolation and loss. Hoping these books will be comforting to some, especially during this pandemic!

5. Will you choose the theme Mental Health as your main concept for any future writing concept?

Answer:

Certainly. I want my stories to help promote healing and well-being and I hope that I can write such authentic stories that'll speak to the reader.

6. What is your advice to young writers who want to write a Mental-Health-related story?

Answer:

To start, it's important to research about the mental health issues that one wants to write about, not just factual, but also read about some subjective experiences. Always be open to constructive criticisms since it'll help you grow not just as a writer, but as a person. And never be afraid to write honestly, from your heart, because writing itself can be a healing process to many of us.
