park sunghoon and yoon soojin have been best friends previously but after the death of sunghoon's family, sunghoon is indebted to quite hand-some of capital which he is unable to return. He takes to perform crimes and becomes a part of the petty world (reference book : Demian by Hermann Hesse : mentions the presence of two worlds - the bright world - consisting of the honest beings - and the petty world - the world of the criminals)
it narrates the story of how the two friends are separated once sunghoon realises that he can no longer return to the bright world. he is now a spectator of the bright world and likewise is yoon soojin. the even number chapters explain soojin's journey into the brighter part while the odd number chapters explain sunghoon's experience in the petty world and eventually how he gives up all hiS hope.
