So starting off he was treated badly, was probably beat up in his own home and those are all very serious problems, and for the last name black i'm pretty sure he always felt like he was alone even if he had the marauders and he just felt like he couldn't deal with it, and when he was sent to azkaban he was in a darker place and so that would be like a type of metaphor for black or blackness.
