"Good afternoon passengers. This is the pre-boarding announcement for Flight 89B to LAX International Airport. Please have your boarding pass and identification ready. Regular boarding will begin in approximately ten minutes time. Thank you."

"Do you have everything ready to board the plane? Do you need to use the restroom before you get on? We're going to miss you so much! It won't be the same at the house anymore. Promise to call us when you make it safely to the airport and when you unpack. Be good and don't do anything that we wouldn't approve of. Remember who you are and what you stand for. We love you so much Mya be safe and have a good time at college" my parents say to me with tears starting to form.

"Yes I do. No I don't. I'm going to miss you more. I promise. Okay. I love you too Mom. I have to go now but I promise to talk to you later today.", I say hugging them one last time. "I love you", I whisper to each of them as I hold tightly not wanting to let go.

As I walk to the boarding line, I look back to see my parents waving goodbye. I wave back and smile with tears in my eyes. I'm going to miss them so much.

So this was where I say goodbye to my old life and hello to my new one. One of the biggest questions I have yet to answer is whether or not I'm ready to do this all alone.

"Welcome aboard Flight 89B.", one of the flight attendants says as she scans my boarding pass. I guess I'm about to find out what new life awaits me in California. . .
