Skye was late. Again. She hurriedly ran up the steps and into the building. Mike, the security officer in charge, looked at her and chuckled.
"Your car break down again Agent?" he asked while waving her through the metal detector.
Skye put her bag and gun on the conveyor belt and hurried through while saying, "Yes, and I already know I need to get a new one, I'm working on it."
Mike grinned and handed her gun and bag back, "Good luck" he called and she hurried to the elevator.
Soon, she was getting out on level 7.
Carson, a fellow agent, grinned at her, "Boss wants.." he started.
"I know," Skye interrupted, heading to the boss's office.
Director Adrian Clark was on the phone when Skye walked in. She took a seat in front of his desk without hesitation.
Director Clark finished his conversation and put the phone down.
He sighed.
"I know I'm late, it was my car again, it's at the mechanic now, I'm looking for a new one. I know it's unprofessional and.."
Director Clark raised his hand, "Your my best agent Skye, I get it, but this is the third time this month and if the other agents don't see me chew you out, they'll say I'm playing favorites, which I am, but I have to make it not look that way."
Skye nodded.
"So," Director Clark continued, "Get your car situation figured out and when we're done walk out of here looking a little chewed out okay?"
Skye nodded again.
Director Clark leaned forward, "Also I'm taking the Grady brothers case from you."
"What!" Skye shot out of her chair, "Why? I've been on their case for nine months, I have an operation planned and am just waiting for them to take the bait you can't take it from me now!"
Director Clark raised his eyebrows. Skye rained in her emotions and sat down.
"I can do whatever I feel is best for my agents." He said, "You've had multiple successful cases, other agents here need practice, and I need you for a different job."
Skye was still furious, but she had a feeling arguing would get her nowhere.
Director Clark explained, "We've been assigned the task of protecting some high up people in a company that's doing something important for the government. It's all really classified and that's why it got assigned to us. None of my new agents have been trained in protection so I have a group who are going to do some training, but until they finish I want my best agents on the case, which is you and your team."
Skye frowned but nodded.
"Good" Director Clark said, "Now go give your files on the Grady brothers to Agent Wesley."
Skye left the office and went to her desk, she unlocked her drawer and grabbed all the files for the Grady brother's case. She took a deep breath and walked over to Agents Wesley's desk. She dropped the files in front of him. His eyes went wide when he saw the files and he looked up at her.
"I've got most of an operation planned for you rookie," Skye said, "Don't mess it up."
Skye walked away and Agent Carson joined her, "Director took away your case for being late, harsh."
"Shut up," Skye said.
"Come on," he said, "I'm sure you got assigned a better case, you're the director's favorite. Let me help with the new case."
"You want to help?" Skye asked.
"Yeah," Agent Carson answered.
"Fine," Skye said, "Let the Director know and you're in."
Agent Carson grinned and hurried off.
Agents Carson could be super annoying, but was a great agent, and Skye was grateful for his help on the case. She also knew that once he figured out what the case was he would be annoyed, but by then it would be too late for him to get out of it. Convincing the other agents on her team would be difficult.
