I Don't Know You Yet

It was currently 3am in London, and she couldn't sleep. It wasn't that she's wasn't tired; she was actually exhausted. She hadn't gotten much sleep the past few nights due her new neighbor moving into the flat next door. She had discovered pretty quickly that her bedroom wall was shared with his flat, and had been hearing the sounds of them moving boxes and furniture around every night. She guesses they must have a job that ends pretty late, otherwise they wouldn't be doing it then, so she wasn't mad at them or anything, but it certainly wasn't good for her sleep.

So there she was, lying in bed, staring at the wall connecting the two flats and trying desperately to fall asleep, even though she knew it was just futile and pointless, because you can never just fall asleep when you're really trying to. It was then that she heard a noise in the otherwise oddly quiet building. More moving, she assumed. But then there was something else. The twang of guitar strings, the near silent cursing under breath as the hollow instrument clanged against something. And then there was silence. It's didn't last long.

A slow, sweet, melancholy tune filled her ears, muffled by the drywall and thin insulation but beautiful nonetheless. Before long, a man's voice joined the guitar, soft and calming. She could just make out the words of a song she'd never heard before:

"You know it takes a lot to move me
So if you figure it out tell me
I trace figures on your smile lines
Work a formula to cure me

"And I'm lonely
There I said it
Nine million people
I always seem to add them up"

The rain outside her window melded perfectly and she was entranced. Her eyes slowly seemed to close of their of accord.

"I could go away
I could pack my things and be gone before you wake
You know I've tried hard to love me too
It always seems to fall in through

"Maybe one day I'll live in La Jolla
Drinking cocktails out over the water
My own personal sunset
To give each day it's own diploma

"You know it's funny
Amid my backseat taxi jaunts
I'm trying to ignore the skyline
So I don't figure out where you..."

By the time the mysterious neighbor had finished his song, she was fast asleep.

Author's Note:

Sorry this chapter is so short! I wanted to include more of a sort of timelaspe thing and then the beginning of their first meeting, but I don't know how I want it to go yet and I was hoping I could hear some people's opinions. Where should I go from here? I have a few ideas which I will now list:

• they don't actually meet for a while, but one night before then he hears her being upset, make be having some sort of panic attack and starts playing to try and calm her down? I don't know I feel like this might be better in a sort of long distance thing because they'll have to meet in person eventually and them it might be weird and confusing

• the way they meet is that he plays every night and then one day he doesn't so she like goes and knocks on his door to see if he's okay? It's weird but I feel like it could be pretty cute and like flustered awkward in a cute way idk, but it could be seen as creepy I guess

• it's been a while and this is just kind of the routine and maybe he doesn't know it but maybe he does and then one day maybe a few weeks later they both end up leaving their flats at the same time or something? And they just sort of start hanging out and becoming friends but I don't know how or if they ever bring up her hearing him or how he could know. It could be that they both know and when they first meet in person neither of them wants to bring it up because they're not sure the other knows? And then eventually maybe iy comes up once they know each other better I guess

So there's that
Also I just realized I just said "she" this whole chapter instead of y/n. Do you guys want it to be y/n? If not, what should I do for a name or whatever?

ALSO important question: sould Wilbur be a streamer in this? And should I include Lovejoy? And if you don't want either, should he even have released music? Should he just he a guy writing music in the flat next door, not famous at all or anything?

So now that I've gone on this whole rant that's probably longer than the chapter itself you have to comment your opinions or else I'll be sad lol :(
