My name is Jenna Markus, I know exactly where I am. Just one problem, I don't know what dimension I'm in. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but normally the McDonalds in Times Square wasn't being used as a rebel base in post apocalyptic New York. You see the one constant across every different earth, universe, dimension, whatever you wanted to call it is the McDonalds in Times Square. It isn't always called McDonald's, and Times Square isn't always called Times Square, but no matter what's going on in any given universe the building is there. I have no clue why, or how, but it is. It's actually really unsettling. I'd elaborate on some theories, but right now I have way bigger problems than then the fact that the fast food industry really is everywhere.
At the moment two nice rebel soldier men are dragging me to what is probably either a prison or a torture chamber. I hope it's a prison. I still have ten hours left, and in a prion I know I have less of a chance of getting hurt. See I can move through dimensions, but only with the help of the watch, and the watch has a twelve hour reset time. Basically, I can stay as long as I'd like, but I have to stay for at least twelve hours. At the moment I was wishing it was more like twelve minutes. Post apocalyptic worlds can be nice for blowing off steam, you can trash anything and no one cares, but they suck big time when you get caught by a particularly violent group of survivors.
As they led me down a set of stairs the smell hit me. The smell of corpses. No matter how many dead worlds I'd visited the smell never stops making me gag. Now was no exception. As they lead me further down to the basement I try not to throw up. They open a thick metal door with a screech that makes we wince. I am pushed through, and the door is slammed shut behind me. The room is dark, but based on the smell and the squishy-ness I can tell what I'm walking on. Bodies.
I bend over and throw up. Great. Now the inside of my mouth tastes as bad as it smells. I wish I could sit down, but god, that would be disgusting. I check the watch. 09:45:12, it reads. Nine hours and forty five minutes to go. "Shit!" I scream into the darkness. At least I can complain in situations like this. "First time in a body shed huh?" Says a voice from somewhere in the darkness. It's rough, but not naturally. It sounds more like 'I haven't had water in days' than 'I'm batman' rough. "And hopefully my last." I call back. I hear a laugh in the darkness. It's rough too, like rocks grinding against each other. I laugh too. You never know how people will react to you doing or saying something uncommon for their universe.
I stay silent in hopes that I can keep quiet for nine hours, then slip away without much thought. Unfortunately my roommate seems to have other ideas. "So," said the voice, "what's your story, how'd you get here?"
"You go first." I say. Let's hope my new friend is very in depth when it comes to storytelling.
"How do I know I can trust you?" They ask.
"I could ask you the same thing." I respond. I hope it sounds cool and confident, but with my recent coughed up dinner and the stench that I had yet to get used to, I doubt I sounded that good. "Fair enough, but you definitely have more energy than I do." I sigh and look at the watch. 09:27:03. It's going to be a long wait.
"My story is pretty unbelievable." I say. "I doubt it's anything you want to hear."
"So you'd rather sit in silence and let the corpses keep you company?" The voice asked.
"I'd honestly rather sleep." I say, "but I think we both know how gross that would be."
"Alright," they say, "if you don't want to sleep on a pile of bodies find the door." I walk backwards until my hands hit cold metal, and I'm touching a knob. "Got it!" I yell over.
"Good, now walk along the wall towards where the doors hinges are." I feel for the hinges, and when I find them I walk forwards, one hand on the wall. I turn with the corner when I reach it, and move cautiously forwards. I stumble on the occasional body, but none of them decide to wake up and grab me, which is a plus.
Then a voice screams "ouch!" I jump back and yelp. "Relax, it's me. Hold on." I hear a shuffling on the floor. "Okay take two steps forwards." I do. My foot isn't on anything squishy anymore, so that's a good sign. "Do you feel the bodies anymore?"
"No, the ground is solid." I say with relief.
"Then take a seat." Says the voice. I do. I lower myself to the ground slowly, being careful not to touch anything. I push my legs forwards, shoes in front so that any stray carnage is pushed away. I put my hands behind my head and relax as much as I can against the wall. "Going to sleep now?" The voice asks.
"Goodnight" I respond in my best singsong voice.
"See you when you wake up." The voice mutters. I smile, I know he won't.

When I wake up the first thing I do is check the watch. It's a habit I've picked up along the way. I let out a sigh of relief when I see that it reads 00:00:00. Without a second thought I slam my hand over it. The whole thing is like a big button, and when I press it, I get out. The watch starts to glow brightly, and the light spreads on to me. I feel a hand grab my wrist, and the light spreads to that person too. Looks like the light woke up my body buddy. At least he'd probably be going to a better place. The world goes white.
When the bright whiteness of the travel is over I blink to adjust my vision. There's a naked bulb attached to the ceiling and I see boxes upon boxes stacked everywhere. I'd materialized leaning up against one in a corner. "Jenna?" Asks the voice from the-what had they called it? A 'body shed'? I turned I face the source of the voice and saw a boy who looked surprisingly familiar. Like me he had black hair, olive skin, and brown eyes. "Where are we?" He asks.
"In a supply room, isn't that obvious? How do you know my name?" He looks at me, no, more like examines me, and then, without warning, he pulls me into a tight hug.
I push him back. "Who the hell are you, and how the hell do you know my name?" I ask. The boy takes another minute to stare around the room, then says; "Jenna Markus right? You really don't recognize me?"
"I am Jenna Markus," I say cautiously, "but I have no clue who you are."
"Jenna," he looks me in the eye, "are you sure you don't know me?" I shake my head no.
"I've never seen you before." I say, "why?" He takes a deep breath.
"Jenna, I'm Austin Markus." He says, "your brother?"

Hi readers, I don't usually do these but this time I just thought what the hell, it's chapter one, I may as well say hi. So y'know, all the usual shameless self advertising and begging for feedback. Seriously though, I'd really appreciate your comments, anything you liked, didn't like, absolutely hated, spelling errors, anything at all.
I'll try to consistently update about once a week, but it does depend on, you know, life and stuff. So I guess that's all, comment, vote, love me, hate me, skip this entire a/n because you think they're as boring as I do, or maybe you love a/n's and want me to make one for every chapter, comment to let me know, and thanks for reading.
