Hello! This is my first fanfiction so I would like lots of constructive critisism to help me develop as a writer. I will try to update as much as possible, but I'm in school so it might be kinda hard. I recommend reading Divergent before this. I'm not going into to much detail about the system.
This is just an experiment to see if I would do any good at writing, so sorry if it's a little badly written. Enjoy!
I jerk myself awake, breathing heavily. My hand subconsciously travels to the back of my neck, like it does every time I'm on edge.
Another nightmare. They never go away do they? They just keep on coming back bleeding into your life, reminding you that you're never really safe...
I shudder and try to move away from the bad thoughts. Reluctantly, I pull the quilt from my legs, allowing myself one last second to lie in bed, already missing the warmth of the fabric, before I swing my legs off the bed and getting up.
A small yawn escapes my mouth as I walk over to the bathroom. My forehead glistens with sweat gathered from the nightmare, so I quickly splash water over my face. When I'm done I run my comb through my hair for good measure.
Today is the aptitude tests. That means after today I get to take a break from the control room and move into the training room, where I will train the Dauntless members to-be. I've got a meeting today about the training schedules with Lauren. I have to be there by 10 am so that leaves me about 20 minutes to spare.
I pull on my jacket and shoes, not bothering to rush. My door creaks as I open it and step out into the trademark Dauntless tunnels, my shoes barely making a sound on the stone. But that doesn't really mean much beacause if they did make any noise I wouldn't be able to hear it over the shouts and laughter of the Dauntless.
Even though I get to meetingroom #38 early, Lauren is sitting at the head of the table sipping her coffee.
"Morning Four!" Lauren is beaming when I walk into the room
"Why are you so happy?" I question, with a slight edge to my voice. To most people in this compound I'm 'Four the prodigy with only four fears', and I don't ever let down my 'tough guy' reputation in public. Even around my friends.
"Aren't you excited for training the initiates?" Lauren asks
"Sure I am, but it's my duty to make sure only the best get chosen, no fooling around."
After that we both decide to get to work, figuring out an efficient schedule for the initiates.
*PAGE BREAK*
Lauren and I were able to work out a schedule for training so, like all the other Dauntless, I have the rest of my day off. I plan to find Zeke, my best friend.
I am on my way there when I see a familiar figure in the hallway. Eric. I try to make my way past him but he blocks my path.
"Hello Four, you're just the guy I was looking for." He says smoothly.
"What do you want." I growl.
He doesn't meet my glare with one of his own, instead he just smiles.
"Have you seen the article released today?"
"No"
"Well I think you should get the chance to read it." He replies, holding out a sheet of paper.
"I'm not interested in what Erudite have to say about my old faction."
"Are you sure Eaton, this one's got you in it."
I snatch the paper out of his hand, and start reading it while Eric leans against the wall, smirking. After reading just the title, I start to get nervous.
Abuse inAbnegation?
By: Jeanine Matthews
Abnegation has been known as the faction with the least transfers for years, but recently more and more of them have been leavinng their faction for others.
One that stood out is Tobias Eaton, son of influential council member Marcus Eaton. He transfered to Dauntless two years ago. Sources in Abnegation say that he was a selfless child, one who didn't look likley to leave. But he did.
Fellow initiates say that he would call out in his sleep, sometimes even crying. Shouting at someone to stop something. Did abuse promt these Abnegation children to leave? Why else would someone so selfless tranfer? And if the Abnegation do abuse their children, why are they in power?
Erudite belives in doing the right thing. Beating innocent children is not the right thing, so we belive in a change of power.
From: Erudite.
I look up and see that while I was reading, Eric walked away. Being the one in the hallway, I let out a frustrated sigh. I stand there for a bit, laning against the wall.
Eric knows who I am. If he knows who I am that means he could tell people, and if he tells people then...
I continue on my way to Zeke's apartment, he'll know how to calm me down. He knows about Marcus, no one else does though. Telling him was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but I'm glad I did it. When I get there, he's lying on his worn leather couch, half asleep.
I close the door carefully behind me and slip my shoes off. Zeke looks up at me with lazy eyes.
"What're you doing here bro?" I don't say anything, just hand him the article and sit down next to. He looks up at me quizically, then starts reading. His eyes widen halfway through.
"C'mere." He says when he's done. He leans foreward and envelops me in a big hug. Usually only the Amity hug, but today is a special situation. I can feel tears threatening to spill out, and after a few seconds they do. Zeke pulls back and looks at my tears, surprised.
"The Great and Powerful Four is crying!" He says, putting his hand to his heart in mock surprise.
In the most threatening voice I can muster while crying I growl "If you tell anyone, you're dead Ezekiel."
He just laughs and shakes his head. "Whatever you say, Four."
