Author's note

This is my first Horizon Scott Westerfield fanfic. In this fanfic, Molly, Crash, and Cal are still alive and are normal. And when Akiko dies in the fourth book, Anna dies with her and comes back to life. Akiko got the mini Colossus, and Anna got a hybrid animal that she flew around with in the rift, about as big as a horse. She had found it right after Akiko and herself had come back to life, and Anna named her Cassandra, Cassie for short. She was half machine and half dragon. I hope you will like this fanfic!!

Chapter 1

Anna

Anna slipped out of her bed.

It was two o'clock in the night. Her parents wouldn't wake up for about four and a half hours, which was good. She didn't want any interruptions. She figured that the tracker that she had built would warn her when her parents woke up, so her parents wouldn't wake up and find her bed empty.

Now, she had things to do. She wasn't tired, because she learned how to get rid of her tiredness by doing a bit of yoga a few days a week. A little goes a long way.

Anyways, she softly hopped out of her bed and slipped into the bathroom in her own room. She showered and brushed her teeth, and walked out of her bathroom feeling clean and refreshed.

She then locked her door, just in case, and walked over to the side of her bed. She climbed the head of the board of her bed, and swiped at a shimmery blue key that camouflaged with her beautiful blue walls. Many people would have said that the walls kept on changing shades of blue, which was true. Anna had invented many different colors of paint that changed shades of colors all the time.

She stuck the key into the keyhole in the side of her bed that other people could have sworn hadn't been there, and a small staircase descended under her bed. She slipped in it, and started to descend down.

She had made the staircase by herself, and didn't tell anyone about it, not her parents, not Molly and Team Killbot, not the Cub-Tones, and not her sorta half-boyfriend Yoshi. She had made it a few months ago, making everything with tools. She had gotten the idea when she had gotten trapped in the rift, when she and Akiko had died. She didn't even tell Akiko, who Anna had gotten very close to, about her secret talents.

She reached the bottom of the staircase. She flipped on the light. A very long hallway with many doors appeared before her. She stored everything here, her projects, instruments, inventions, robots, and much more. She remembered how she had made it, carving the walls with her strong hands, twirling her fingers in between the marble and cement to make patterns.

She walked into the first room. There were all of her finished projects. She had started building when she was four, living in the woods.

The curves of Anna's lips turned up. She loved living in the woods. She caught every meal, and built houses for herself to build in. Her parents found her in the woods when she was seven, and adopted her. Sure she loved this modern civilization, but she sometimes missed the woods.

She had started building back then, and some of the inventions that she had made were very useful, especially because she lived in the wild. She made a device that would buzz when food was around. She also made a machine that she could ride and would also kill predators.

She exited the room and walked into the diagonal room from that one. This was where she put all of her unfinished inventions. She picked up her newest invention. It was a pair of shoes. They looked ordinary enough. But Anna had been designing it to fly when the wearer wore it. She hadn't finished it yet, and suspected it would finish at the end of the week.

She started to work on it, and in about fifteen minutes, the only sound was the sound of ripping leather, and tinkering metal.
