Have you ever walked on a winter afternoon As the sun is setting? Ice crystals hang in the air, Shimmering, iridescent, fleeting points of light, Each a tiny prism. The world has fallen silent, Even your own footsteps make no sound. Time loses meaning as the sun's last light Bathes the rooftops in pink. The frozen particles perform a final dance, They form a halo then dissipate, gone forever. As the sun falls below the trees, The illusion fades. My phone rings and the world reclaims me. I walk on briskly, It's getting late.
