Y/N

Trainee at SM entertainment.

Age 17.

Impending debut.

Group unknown. Or at least that's what her k-profile read.  There were rumors that she had done background vocals of a recently debuted group (a small group of Twitter users claimed she was a backup dancer for that same group).

However, these rumors were false. All of them.

Or at least that's what SM's social media team said.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Y/N!" The dance instructor yelled, "Sharper!"

Y/N quickly responded and tried to enunciate the step of the dance more.  Her arm formed an impossible shape.

"Better. Now repeat." The instructor continued to yell, "If you want to actually debut, you have to be perfect. The public will rip you to shreds if you aren't."

"I know, I know," Y/N replied.

"Don't sass me." The instructor walked around Y/N, inspecting her, "Pay attention to your footwork.  Now again. You will do this all night if you have to."

Y/N immediately straightened up, running through the dance, this time she remembered to focus on her technique.  Footwork executed cleanly, arms perfect, posture straight, all the while making sure not to be too stiff.

"Technique is good. Performance bad."

Y/N repeated the dance. This time her facials were expressive (and hair somehow), walk diva-like, and had her own interpretation of the choreography.

"You can't let go of your technique for performance!"

Y/N ran the dance again.

"It's fine." The instructor remarked, "The other members are coming in so, unfortunately, you can't practice anymore but I suppose it's good enough for recording."

Y/N kept her face blank.

"Go get a drink. And a snack."

Y/N walked out of the practice room, down the hallway, and to the water fountain. She drank some water and then went back to the practice room. She knew she had a small canister of almonds in her athletic bag. Those were perfect for snacking, even when on a diet.

When she got back in the room, the instructor was already holding up the canister of almonds, "Good snack.  You can have 15."

"Thanks," Y/N took the canister and counted out the exact number, "Are they here yet?"

"Almost." The instructor walked away to their phone, probably to cue up music.

Y/N went to the corner of the dance floor and counted to herself, "1 and a 2. 3-e-and. 4," She stumbled on the 4 and repeated, "1 and 2. 3-e-and. 4." She continued on, "5. 6 e and a. 7 e and a. 8."  She then moved on to the next eight counts. By the 4th eighth count, Y/N could hear loud giggling echoing throughout the hallway into the practice room.  Y/N's head shot up but she chose to continue working on the dance steps until the giggling entered the room.

"Y/N!" An excited voice yelled.

Y/N looked up from her dance steps, "Ningning!" She answered back.

"You get to be featured this time!"

"Aren't I a backup dancer?" Y/N asked.

Ningning smiled and giggled, "No silly! Why do you think you got to take privates? They're recording your debut! You're taking up the main dancer with Karina so they want to feature you alone," she reached forward and patted Y/N on the head, "It's your turn."

"I-I didn't realize that-," Y/N breaks off when Karina interrupts her loudly.

"Well you deserve it."

"Thanks." Y/N got in.

"Of course," Karina smiled sweetly and then flipped her ponytail and walked away.

"Ignore her Y/N. She's just upset that she has to share her main role. You know the hate online gets to her," Ningning supplied, ever the placater.

"Yeah. I suppose. I guess I should get some more practice in then," Y/N agreed.

"You don't have time," Ningning was apologetic, "See. The makeup crews coming in. They have to get us ready and into our costumes."

Y/N smiled. This was the moment she had trained for, the dance practices with costumes.  The dance practices with costumes where the members made their fans laugh. Or at least usually, this was Y/N's chance to show the fans what she was made of, "Oooh. What're the costumes?"

"I don't know. They're a suprise," Ningning answered.

Author's note:

Thank you for reading the first chapter! I have a couple things to say down here. Is that how these notes work?

1. I love Karina and only chose her to be a more 'villanizing' figure because she gives off the most mysterious aura to me out of all the members of Aespa.

2. I'm not sure how long this'll be but at least 6-7 chapters because there has to be enough time to get through the basic plot but who knows where my brain will take this.

That's it! I hope you enjoyed!! <3
