Nightmare was sitting on his throne when Sci walked in with Red. He looked up, brows furrowed in confusion.
"I thought you said you needed a break, Sci?"The nerdy Sans' eyelights were wide with excitement, and Nightmare internally cringed at the positivity.
"I think I've found a cure for Error!"
Nightmare sprang out of his seat.
"Well, what are we waiting for?!" he asked, walking swiftly to the living room, where the rest of the gang were playing games and eating snacks. Killer noticed Nightmare, and nudged Dust to get his attention."What's up, boss?"
Nightmare almost corrected Killer, but felt it was of little importance right now.
"Sci has found a cure for Error. Killer, you're coming with us, and the rest of you stay here and await further orders. Ok?"They all saluted, and Killer stood up. He grinned sheepishly as he followed Nightmare, Sci, and Red into a portal. In light of Nightmare's change in attitude where he was concerned, he couldn't help but feel special. Maybe it was just him, but he felt like Nightmare really does care for him the same way he cares for Nightmare. It made Killer feel so warm and fuzzy inside to know that his crush shares his feelings.
The group arrived in the Doodlesphere just as Dream and Blueberry did. For a moment, the atmosphere was tense. The two guardians glared sternly at each other, while their significant others tried to divert their attention.
"C'mon, N-Nightmare," Killer said softly. "We have bigger things to worry about than fighting Dream."
"HE IS RIGHT, DREAM," Blueberry chimed in. "LET US GO AND CHECK UP ON INK AND ERROR. I'M CONVINCED THEY WILL BE QUITE HAPPY TO SEE US, ESPECIALLY IF WE ALL GET ALONG!"
Dream glanced down at Blueberry before sighing. Turning his gaze to his brother, he walked up to him. Nightmare stood firm, preparing himself for an attack, but none ever came. Instead, Dream held out his hand.
"I know we haven't been on the best terms, brother," he began, smiling faintly. "But could we put aside our hostility for one day? I want us to be brothers again, if only for a day."
Nightmare stared quietly at Dream's outstretched hand. On the one hand, this could just be a ploy to get him to lower his guard. Although, Dream is too bold and stubborn for a ruse such as that. If anyone was capable of a feint in the form of fake friendship, it was more than likely Nightmare. Sure, he wouldn't do that to any of his crew, but to his enemies, he was a ruthless player. So, it made him suspicious of Dream's sudden change of heart.
On the other hand, as far as Nightmare knew, Dream was still under the illusion that Nightmare hated him. He didn't show it often, but the apple incident had hurt him deeply, and he sought to fix their relationship and return it to what it once was. Nightmare didn't exactly care what their relationship was as long as Dream stayed out of his way. Of course, Dream didn't stay out of his way, taking Ink's side and what have you, so Nightmare deemed him an enemy. Now though....
Dream held his breath as Nightmare's single eyelight met his golden ones. It almost seemed... cold. Uncaring. Nonchalant and uninterested. He kept his hand up though, holding onto the frail hope his brother would still remember how much they had meant to each other in the past. He would give anything to bring back the brother he once knew, and to go back to lying under the starlit sky, pointing to constellations and watching stars shoot across the sky over the tree of feelings, again. He wanted so much to put this silly fight behind them, and for there to be peace in the multiverse once more. And he hoped that Nightmare wanted that, too.
Another minute passed, and finally, Nightmare took Dream's hand.
"Fine. You win. We can be... buddies for one day. Don't make me regret this, brother."
