What I Always Needed: book 3

My name is Danielle Paige McKnight

Danni's POV

I'm with Jr and Kayden. Both of them are protecting, or so, they call it by sitting on both sides of me at lunch right now.

"Hi Danni!" Both of them hug me at the same time. I hug them back.

"Guys. Relax." I say pushing them off me before smiling. "You two are goofballs."

"Let's go play in the sand Danni!" Jr and Kayden run to the sandbox and I follow.

I love those two!

After everything with my parents last year, things have been awesome. I still hang out with my real father. We go to the park, for ice cream, he even takes me shopping sometimes for school.

I heard my birth mom died in jail, but the only thing we have in common was that cord during birth. I run to the sand box and fall face first into the sand.

Jr and Kayden fall over laughing before they help me up. I'm 3 by the way. Jr and Kayden were able to skip grades early.

We all sit side by side in class, and guess who's in the middle. Me.  Kayden passes me a shovel, so start digging sand.

Two minutes into digging we all run to the slide and swings.

"Here you go Danni." Kayden holds the swing down with Jr because I'm clumsy.

They get on the swings on both sides of me and we swing and laugh until it's time to go back in school.

Nap time!
......
I wake up and it's time for everyone to pack up their stuff and practice writing in cursive before turning the papers in.

I love the way Jr and Kayden write, but my own handwriting, not so much. Mom and dad have been helping me, but I haven't caught on yet.

"Danni, do you want us to help you write in cursive?" Kayden ask.

"Yeah. I'll bring my stuff later." I see aunt Madison and uncle Eric waiting for Kayden. Jr's already in the car. "I'll see you later buddy." I say.

Kayden hugs me and then Jr unbuckled his seatbelt, gets out the car, and hugs me too.

My mom and dad show up soon after.

"Hi TT Kayla and Uncle Twent!" Jr and Kayden scream.

"Ready, Danni?"

"Yes dad."

As I open my room door, I walk to my bed and fall on it.

"Danni, food will be done soon!" My mom calls. I smile to myself. I drift off to sleep.

I wake to Jr and Kayden standing in front of me. "She's alive!" Kayden shrieks. I laugh. "The foods ready, sleepy head." Jr rings out the room.

"Come on Danni! Let's go!" Both of them pull me out of bed. We all sit at the table and eat.

"Danni, your mom and I have something to tell you." I look at dad. "She's having another baby soon."

"I already me that dad. I'm happy for the little one in there." I see Jr and Kayden look at each other in the corner of me eyes.

"Looks like it's gonna be a second one joining our circle guys."

"We have to protect them too. We beat ass like grass." Jr looks at Kayden, as we all do. It's silent until Kayden says "Disregard that last message."

Everyone laughs. A knock sounds at the door. It my dad. I invited him over with mom. All of us eat.
Jr and Kayden are now helping me with my writing as the adults are sitting in the living room, chatting.

"You're doing it Danni!" Jr falls off the bed in excitement. I smile to myself. Looking at the countless sheets of paper sound my room, I see the one pair that matters the most: the one with my own cursive handwriting!

Kayden is helping Jr of the floor as I run to show everyone.

"Yay!!!!!!!!" They all cheer for me. I'm so freaking happy right now. Jr and Kayden are sitting on the floor when I return to my room.

"Thanks guys!" I hug them this time.
All three of us run and play outside until Uncle Eric and TT Maddie get ready to leave.

My dad hugs me and says how much he's proud of me then leaves. Mom and dad tick me in after I take a shower.

I don't like to bathe anymore. Weird huh?"

I'm two and I love the shower. I'm three.
