"What?" I let out a breathy, shaky whisper, tears filling my eyes as I looked down at the ground. My hair was hiding my eyes as one single tear came trickling down my burning cheek, finding its way to my mouth.
Colin had never been mean. Mocking, maybe. An annoying macho jerk, yes. But never in our entire friendship have I ever seen him be mean. I clenched my teeth, forcing my tears back inside my eyes. I ran my thumb over my fingers, rubbing them so much that my hands had turned crimson.
Tell Robin to stop fooling around...
Tell her to grow up...
The words kept echoing through my head as if Colin had said it to my face, and not by text.
Tasting the salty essence of the single teardrop, led to more tears running down my face, probably leaving red lines on my cheeks as they always did.
"That jerk!" Olivia mumbled, shaking her head.
Suddenly, the door burst open, Colin, hands full of varieties of delicious junk food which I would've snatched right out of their hands if I wasn't feeling like sitting under tons of blankets and pillows on the living room couch, filling my mouth with hazelnut chocolate, as I sobbed over "Charlotte's Web".
"Hey, Colin did you get me my skittles? " Shawn came in the hall, hands in his pockets.
I quickly wiped my tears with the back of my hand and took a deep breath so the redness of my face would fade away. Guess that didn't work, cause Shawn looked at me with wide eyes.
"Robin!" He practically yelled, making Colin turn around and look at me, his eyes going wide.
"Wha-"
"Come on, Robin. Let's go." Olivia cut him off, pulling on my arm. She knew that I would've burst out to tears in front of them if she didn't pull me out of there quickly.
She slammed the door open, still gripping my arm tightly. She sat me down on the couch and stood in front of me. "Are you okay?" I nodded, lips pursed, eyes widened so that the tears couldn't spill out.
"Listen to me," she said, sternly, "he's not worth it and he is not worth your tears. Not if he really meant what he said." She held the sides of my face with her cold hands and smiled at me. I wiped the tears off my face and have her a small smile.
"Thanks Oli," I hugged her tightly "you're the best."
"Yeah I know babe, now go get dressed we're going shopping!" She said, clapping her hands.
I took a deep breath. "I am dressed." I tilted my head, holding the sides of my top up so she could see that there was nothing wrong with I was wearing. A purple tank top with baggy blue jeans that had turned slightly yellow because of four years of constant usage.
"Ha! You're crazy if you think I'm letting you out of this house with these old baggy jeans, that if I remember correctly, Leo barfed on last year." She grimaced. I rolled my eyes.
She never let me go out the way I wanted to. There was always something wrong with my outfit, or so she said. Personally, I didn't care if I went out with old jeans, a loose t-shirt and my dirty white sneakers. Olivia, on the other hand, was always stylish and somewhat girly, even though simple and not too flashy. Skinny jeans, a cute tunic and flats were her idea of a decent outfit for the mall, and I was guessing she was gonna make me wear exactly that. Her head was lost in my closet, searching for a top to go with my black skinnies. Glancing at me, then going back to messing up the shelves of my once organized closet, she sighed and said, "This could all be a huge misunderstanding, y'know." She took out a cream floral flowy top and held it up, raising one eyebrow.
"How can it be a misunderstanding? He couldn't have accidentally written the text and sent it to me..." I went on, shaking my head, rejecting the top she'd picked for my outfit. It was just too..."flowery".
She gave me a mischievous grin and wiggled her eyebrows, taking a step closer to me. I took a step back, holding my hands in front of me. She chuckled and pushed me on the bed, trying to pull the top over my head, forcing me to wear it. After a series of playful punches and slaps were gifted and received, I ended up in a very girly outfit, with extremely messy hair. I got up from the bed and straightened my top, turning around, examining myself in the mirror. I actually looked good. I looked at Olivia. She had her trademark smile, the one she wore when she got what she wanted.
"I don't know, I mean Colin never calls you Robin. When has Colin ever called you Robin?" I sighed.
"Whenever he's been serious, which isn't in many occasions, but there have been a few. And he was surely serious when he sent that text..." Colin had been calling me Rob since when I could remember. Only a few times had I ever heard him call my full name, and those were rare moments when he'd stand in front of me and look straight into my plain brown eyes with his mesmerizing dark blue ones and talk to me. Talk to me, not make fun, not goof around; a serious, mature conversation. Even if we were only ten years old.
"Oh," she let out a sigh, "Well, you never know for sure until you've actually talked to him." I gave her a are-you-out-of-your-mind look, "You can't expect me to go right to him and talk to him about what just happened moments ago without sobbing like a donkey." I threw my hands up and let them fall to my sides again.
"I didn't say right away. Forget him for a few days, have some fun. If he approaches you, try and bring up the subject and ask him what he meant of something..."
I knew she just wanted to help, but it seemed like every time I listened to her, something would go wrong. If I hadn't been so curious and careless, I could've and would've told Olivia that I didn't want to tell Colin that I liked him, I wouldn't have made a fool out of myself the other night, nor would I have called Evangelina to tell her to text Colin in the first place. It seemed impossible for me to talk to Colin ever again in my entire existence.
"I think I'm gonna need a lot more than a few days Ol." I said, chewing the inside of my cheek, shaking my head.
"That's okay. It'll just give us more time to plan a new mission." She gave me a cheeky grin. My eyes went wide as I slapped my hand over my forehead. She pulled on my arm, skipping down the long hallway, giggling.
As we both skipped along to the door I slipped on the purplish rug in the middle of the hall and slipped, almost hitting the ground, but slamming my hand on the dark wooden door to our front yard.
"Whew" I took a deep breath, laughing out loudly as Olivia was literally rolling on the rug, laughing her ass off. I turned my head and scowled at her, swinging the door open harshly, turning back around and out of the door, to crash into a tall, hard body. I gave out a little squeak as I stumbled back at the sudden collision.
"Robin! Are you okay?"
