The woman nearing her mid twenties lazily entered the key code to let her in her apartment complex. Although her vision was hazy, her eyes didn't need to focus on the numbers on the blue keypad as she let her muscle memory enter the numbers for her. As the large clear door slid open, she stumbled herself into the building muttering an "Oops" to no one in particular. She groaned as she dragged herself to the elevator and groaned even louder as an annoying white sign let her know the lift was currently "Not in use". Not only this but she slammed her foot against the shut metal doors which only hurt her tenfold. With the help of god, or whoever, she managed to climb four flights of stairs.
A small smile appeared on her makeup stained face as she spots an adult male standing outside the door of her apartment with his foot holding the door open. His usual white hair looked grey under the dim light. His beauty ridden face was decorated with a mini scowl, she studied him further, he had his arms crossed in a disappointed manner.
"Satoru~," she managed to whisper as she dragged herself closer and closer to the comfort of her home. "Is Megumi asleep?" she asked him.
"Y/n, do you have any idea what time it is right now?"
Silence.
He nudged her to take a guess with his eyes.
"Probably just after midnight," she grumbled dazedly.
"Two o'clock in the morning, sweetheart." He sighed exasperated knowing that a lecture now would go in one ear and out the other.
"Why you so upset?" She asked, her voice slightly childish, poking at his porcelain cheek.
"You didn't answer my calls." He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Or texts," he added without missing a beat.
The woman stood indifferent like he hadn't even answered her question. "Sorry, but you're not my dad." She spat out, her words harsher than she intended. Never a pleasant thing to say to an ex-lover.
He ignored her simply responding with a huff and a remark about how thick she is under his breath. For a moment they stood in silence, staring each other. Blue eyes into her sleepy bloodshot ones.
"I'll make sure to find a better babysitter next time, don't worry," she finally broke their silence, much to his dismay.
Before he could utter another word, she suddenly shoved the taller man leaving him stumbling out the door into the corridor and gave a departing smile; followed by a little peck on his cheek to show her gratitude for taking care of her son. She quickly shut the door and made sure to lock it and departed to her bedroom.
Her eyes tried to focus on the little being on top of her queen bed in his Paw Patrol pyjamas snoring softly. She wondered why she would ever leave the house when this was what she had at home everyday.
And so the mother guilt hit her like a truck and especially hard now that she was intoxicated.
