"Come onnn, Y/n - san, don't be so boring now that you're a mother," a bored voice replied on the other side of the phone.

Y/n rolled her tired shoulders, closing her eyes, thinking. Contemplating.

Clicking her tongue she replied back to the person on the phone, "Look, I'm finally getting out spending time with my son, don't make me do things I'll regret."

As she was whispering on her phone, her sweet son appeared between her legs with a smile laced with honey. She couldn't help but smile back.

"No, you guys go without me. We'll meet again another day, okay!", she put on her cheeriest voice.

"You don't need to tell me that. I was gonna go even if you didn't. Listen, it's up to you, I've done my part. I'm just saying, there probably won't be another chance for us all to hang out any time soon. That's on you Y/n", the monotone voice replied.

"Gosh, are you seriously guilt tripping me right now, Chizoru," Y/n's eyebrows raised slightly in amusement, "Fine, it's on me, I'm not coming."

"Oh my G-," the line cut abruptly.

"Mi- chan, Mi-chan, how bout you come to Grandpa's and mine for dinner?" the pink haired boy asked out of the blue.

"Ah, you see, Y/n is busy tonight so we won't be able to make it," Y/n broke the news to the hopeful boy with nervous laughter.

"I don't want you to come, I want Mi-chan!" As direct as he sounded, it was clear the boy hadn't meant anything spiteful; despite this, Y/n's eyes still shot open at the bold comment. Said boy contorted his face in confusion when the woman started silently snickering to herself.

"Ah but you see-"

"How about I take Megumi-kun for the night, then?" The old man who was listening to Yuji's pleas finally spoke up.

"Well..." Y/n started as her eyes drifted to the rear view mirror glancing briefly at the the two cuties bundled up together in the back seat. A slight smile appeared on her face as she saw Megumi snoring away on Yuji's shoulder. He must have knocked out cold from all the playing they did today.

No wonder aquariums, despite their questionable ethical values make a shit ton of money, these kids seem to love it. Recollection of Megumi dropping his third ice-cream (which were suspiciously more expensive on the inside than usual) on himself and the two being scared by the baby sharks that charged towards the aquarium glass really solidified how she made the right decision. It was nice taking Megumi outside and watching his childhood; if only his father was there to see it.

Shaking her head dismissively Y/n pushed that thought far back again in her mind. She'd be lying if she said that a mother is all Megumi needed. It probably didn't make that much of a difference on Megumi himself yet, but it will eventually - not having a father.

"Y/n-san says no," Yuji said sadly, with a tiny pout on his lips.

With a laugh she replied, "No darling, that wasn't at you haha. Of course, if Megumi's not too much trouble then.." She continued as she bowed, showing her gratefulness, briefly at the old man riding shotgun.

All of them drove home with occasional chatter and way too many games of eye-spy. It seemed that Yuji still had plenty of energy left in his little body.

Opening her apartment door to an empty house wasn't a feeling she had forgotten yet. It felt awful of her to think that despite having Megumi she couldn't ever rip away the loneliness that keep on gnawing at her.

She looked around her apartment which was far too big for just the two of them; dust had collected sneakily on the tops of her shelves filled top to bottom with books, you'd be fooled it's not a library; the plants she tries to grow which die every time rest quietly in the seemingly abandoned apartment. Despite having its initial luxury penthouse look, there was no homely vibe about it. Y/n hated this because she wanted Megumi to grow in a loving and warm environment.

After her steaming hot shower, she walked briskly to her even more lonely looking kitchen as she swung on the fridge door, scanning the white shelves for something to fulfil her appetite. It was no secret she couldn't cook. But she insisted that despite not knowing how to cook, she was certain she'd be good at it.

Finally giving up this false pursuit in adulting she opened up Uber Eats.
