Kori's POV:

Waking up in a new place is strange. For a moment everything feels surreal. Like I'm still floating around in a dream. But as the sleep fog leaves my brain I begin to piece everything together again. This time though, the surreal feeling doesn't go away. It just makes itself comfortable in a space near my heart.

Experiencing my emotions is how I am able to use and control my powers. Sometimes those emotions are ones I would rather not experience. But I have learned ways of turning them into more pleasant ones. For now I think I will let these feelings sit in my chest while I get some food. I would prefer to deal with them once I taste something sweet.

Dick is sitting on the island stool when I leave my room. His laptop is open in front of him and he's taking notes furiously. His head is blocking the screen but I'm able to hear the faint sounds of... destruction. The echo of guns, the crash of buildings turned to rubble, the crackle and pop of fire.

I can't help but wonder if my boys had something to do with this.

"Good morning, Dick." I say, from behind him. Realizing from the small jump of his shoulders that he must have forgotten what it's like to live with others. Especially others that fly. He shuts his laptop and spins around in his chair in one simultaneous movement.

"Morning Kori! How did you sleep?" He asks enthusiastically, meeting me with his world famous grin that makes his eyes sparkle like a cartoon character.

"Very well thank you, I believe I was more lagged from the jet than I had thought." I float past him to grab myself a bowl and spoon.

"I seriously don't know how people fly in those things all the time. I mean sure it's faster than running, but I feel like I'd be less exhausted if I did run everywhere." I chuckle at the image of Grayson attempting to run fast enough to keep up with my jet. He is quite amusing.

"Already back to work?" I ask, carding through his cereal cabinet.

"Lucky charms are on the top left." He says automatically. He remembers. "But yeah I just got something from the League. Don't really work with them much right now but its hard to ignore their emails. Especially when they tell me it's 'Urgent'."

"What was 'urgent'?"

"Nothing good, as usual. Nothing I can do anything about either. If I chase after every bad guy on the League's radar I'll never be able to help this city."

"Your head is in the right place, Dick. I think this city is lucky to have your help." He smiles at me. I forgot how soft those blue eyes can be.

I leave Dick to his work and decide to check in with my boys. It's not past noon yet so I don't expect to hear anything from Roy for a few more hours. Unsurprisingly I already have two new messages from Jason. The first one is an article link, the second tells me to call him as soon as I'm awake. I click the link.

My phone almost hits the floor when I read the headline. I feel that surreal feeling lurch into my throat. Jason was right. We shouldn't have left.
