"I can't do this anymore Y/n. I'm sorry. I don't know what to tell you really... But it's over." Justin slams the door shut before you have the chance to fight back. You throw yourself onto the couch with sobs rocking your body. Apparently Justin couldn't handle his career mixed with your college load and the fact that neither of you had every minute to spend together. It was the end of your life, almost quite literally. Justin had been your life since just after high school, three years ago. Three years, gone. You cry yourself to sleep, only to cry yourself to the point of vomiting later.
You swish water around your mouth, washing out the taste for what felt like the millionth time tonight. You groan and slump back to bed, pulling the covers up over your head. You glance at the red numbers of your alarm clock: 3:47 am. Your head is pounding and a wave of nausea washes over you as roll over in bed. You rush back to the toilet just in time. You decide to rest your head on the cool tile floor and sleep there until morning.
Your alarm goes off at 6am, startling you awake. Your neck and joints are stiff as you rise from the floor. The pounding in your head gets stronger with every step, and the whirling in your stomach moves faster. You slap your hand on your alarm, hopefully turning it off. You slip under the covers and lie still until the nausea has subsided enough to fall back asleep. You'd be missing your one class for the day, no doubt.
Your phone starts shouting the lyrics to As Long As You Love Me, reminding you of Justin all over again. Tears leak down your face as you answer it. "Hey baby, you okay? You weren't in class today and it's already noon..." your best friend sounds concerned over the phone. You suck in some air and shakily tell her you're fine.
"Y/n, I'm coming over." You roll your eyes at her over-protective tendencies and hang up.
---------
"I'm fine!" you stress the last word for the thousandth time. She had been in your dorm for at least an hour now, trying to get you talk.
"Y/n," she said with a look. You collapse onto the couch and tell her about Justin leaving, keeping your eyes dry until the very end.
"And yeah, that's it," you sniffle.
She throws her arms around you and holds you tight until you stop crying. "I've got my softball bag in the car. I could take a bat to his crotch, of you'd like.." she suggests with a sly smile. You die laughing and tell her that's unnecessary. She chuckles and gets up to leave. Off to another class.
The rest of the day consists of emptying a whole jar of Nutella using only your finger, going through a whole box of tissues, eating a pint of ice cream, and not leaving the couch. The TV flicked along silently, while you cried over the loss of Justin. The loss of Justin. C'mon y/n. It wasn't like he was dead. You shook your head and got off the couch. You jump in the shower, thanking your lucky stars it was Friday. You get ready to go, throwing on your lowest cut shirt and tight fitting shorts, adding a flick of makeup before heading out to the nearest club to get drunk.
You walk in the door, several heads turning your way. You were sort of a celebrity, dating Justin Bieber and what not... And you also looked stunning tonight. The lights bounced off your brown eyes, shimmering your intentions to the nearest guy. He was tall and built. He had on a black v-neck with tan skinny jeans and white Vans. You winked at him as he moved closer to you. Before even having a drink, you throw your arms around his neck, moving against him in time to the music. He presses his hand to the bare skin of your lower back, holding you in place. Your eyes wander the club over his shoulder as you dance. You spot a familiar red-clad ass shaking in front of a barstool. You laugh as Chaz gives an overly-drunk and overly-interactive Ryan a lap dance. Ryan is beaming with his hands on Chaz's waist as he shimmies in front of the Irish lad. Your dance partner gives you a look and you press your face to his cheek. "I'll be right back, don't leave," you say with a wink.
You saunter toward the boys, making sure Justin wasn't around first. Cody sees you first, giving you a sober grin, tainted by sad eyes. "Hey Y/n!!!!" Austin says as he throws his alcohol heavy arm around you. You smile at him.
Cody grabs your hand and pulls you from the club. In the fresh air, and under some better lighting, he looks you up and down. "You look like a hooker." he says simply. You shrug. Cody sighs. "Go find Justin. He's a mess." he says, handing you a key to the their flat. You look at him gratefully and jog back to your car. You speed back to your dorm to put on some more respectable clothes and then head across town to face Justin.
-----
Knowing Justin won't answer the door, you slip the key in the lock and turn it over, pushing the door open quietly. From all the time you knew Justin, you knew just where you'd find him. You drop the key on the table and slip your shoes off. You pad through the apartment and slide the glass door to the side. You run your fingers through the soft hiar and feel him relax under your touch. He was seated on the balcony, his legs crossed with his knees to his chin and his bare toes poking over the edge. His hands gripped the railing tightly. His green eyes were swimming with tears as he looked up at you. He sucked in a shaky breath, and began to sing.
♫And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
So why don't we go
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know ♫
He stood up and grabbed your hand, leading you back inside. From his singing, you knew where you were going. You let him lead you through the flat and up the exit stairs, right out onto the roof. He walked you to the edge and the two of you stood there for a moment. Pulling away from the ledge, he whispered in your ear, "Y/n, I'm so sorry." His voice cracked and tears slid down his face.
You shook your head, sending a cascading flow of tears down your own cheeks. "No," he said with a fervent fire. "Listen to me, please. I love you. I've never loved anyone as much as I love you. I've always wanted to spend forever together. My feelings have intensified so much that it actually scared me away. But after the few hours without you today, I know I can't do it. I need you y/n. Forever and always. I'm not afraid anymore." He got to one knee. Your hands were clasped with his. You looked out over the beautiful New York city skyline as it was revealed over his shoulder. It reflected in his eyes. You smiled, encouraging him. "Will you make me the happiest man in the world?" he asked. A tear dropped from your chin. He followed it with his eyes, kissed your hand, and when he looked up again, the green was molten and burning. "Y/n, will you marry me?"
