for billions of years since the beginning of time, the ocean loved the moon.
he lays deep beneath the surface of the water, gazing up at his beloved moon who sits above the clouds. so far, too far away for him to reach.and for billions of years, the moon loved the ocean as well.
he rises in the night amidst trillions of stars, silently watching the ocean waves sparkle with his dazzling moonlight. he watches the mortals scattered across the land accept the gifts the ocean gives them. he thought to himself, how kind must the ocean be, to give such splendid fortunes and expect nothing in return.he thinks he must love the ocean as well.
for centuries they stayed like this, gazing longingly at each other but never touching. never in each other's arms.
"oh my dearest moon, won't you come down and let me hold you?"
"im sorry but i cannot, my lovely ocean. mortals need us to watch them carry on with their lives in order to be able to live on."
"in that case, we shall watch them together."
"yes, we shall, my darling."
and nothing changes for eons, until one day.
mortals become mad, destroying the earth with such cruel brutality. animals are dying for their homes are being burnt to the ground. the ocean surface is slick with oil, and the air thick with smoke and tar.
the ocean watches in horror as the once colourful coral reefs become brown and dead. his turtles choke on plastic, and his fish cannot breathe.
"my children! my children are dying!" he screamed and screamed.
enraged he summons countless torrents and endless tsunamis to the land, drowning cities and sinking the concrete buildings which the humans have spent centuries to build.the moon, watching from above, begs for the ocean to stop.
"please stop my love! the mortals do not deserve this!"
he cries.
"my ocean...i thought you were kind... why have you changed so much?""my dearest, i am in pain. they are destroying and killing the earth. therefore they must die."
"is this not enough? the tsunamis have already warned them. wouldn't they have learnt their lesson?"
"humans are not so kind. believe me moon. i've watched them closer than you have. i know that deep down there is evil in their hearts."
"but i love them, ocean." the moon continues to protest. "don't you love them as well?"
"i used to." the ocean sighs sadly. "but they are not the same as they were millenia ago."
yet the moon's words pierces the ocean's heart, for the ocean loves deeply. the terrible flood calms. storms turn into sunny skies, and the clouds were white once more.
alas, the ocean was right.
the horrible pollution and continuous death and the sheer misery of watching his children die one by one weakens the ocean so much to the point where he shuts himself down below in the deepest place he could find where neither sunlight nor moonlight could reach him.
his lungs are caked with oil and he is exhausted from the insurmountable pain in his heart. it bleeds and bleeds, and he can no longer stop it from bleeding.
even then, he calls out to the moon once more."my love, i am dying."
"won't you...come down and hold me this time?"the moon is silent.
and the ocean cries and cries."have you abandoned me?"
the dark waters swirl around him, nothing to be seen.
"please say something."
for centuries the both of them are silent, until one day the moon speaks.
"very well."
"i shall accompany you."and just like that the moon came crashing down into earth at such intense speed, the impact completely wipes out the mortals of the land. he cries for them, and for his beloved ocean who sat quietly down below.
he was falling, falling straight into the deep waters, into the embrace of his lover.
"my moon!"
"my ocean!"
the moon sinks, forming a crater in the floor of the ocean.
and there they stayed for eternity, finally holding each other.
