— chapter one: breaking news —

CAROLINA MARCHED DOWN THE HALL of her parent's bigger than big house, her heeled boots announcing her presence before they could even see her. She walked into their meeting room and stared them down as she walked closer. Following her was Raven and Dahlia, her favorite companions besides Rafael and Natalya.

"What the hell did you do?" Her voice boomed in the mostly empty room, demanding the attention of her parents. Her parents looked at each other uneasily before giving their daughter an uneasy smile.

"Carolina! Sweetie, you haven't been home in so long. How—" Carolina cut them off with a glare.

"I'm not here to chit chat. I'm here to find out what. You. Did." Carolina was having none of their nonsense. She had just settled into her new place when she saw the news. The news had depicted her parents along with other villains, as well as their hero counterparts, watching the creation of what looked to be a black hole of some sort.

"Watch how you talk to us, young lady." Her father tried to be stern but after eighteen and a half years of their BS, Carolina wasn't going to submit.

"I'm not here to get lectured. I'm here because I want to know why I'm being told I have to attend a stupid meeting at that stupid hero hall." Carolina stepped closer to her parents as Raven and Dahlia seemed to glare at her parents along with her.

"It's because we're going to have to clean up our parent's mess." Carolina turned to face the entrance, ready to go off on whoever walked in, when she saw Rafael. "I guess we're janitors now."

"Well," Carolina turned back to her parents, "I'm not a janitor. I don't clean up after other people. Especially not you two." Carolina's glare was back.

"Well, sucks to suck." Her mother said as she crossed her arms across her chest. "If we had to work with those heroes, things would just get much worse than they already are."

"Didn't you teach me to fix my own mistakes? Because no one else was obligated to fix them for me? When did you become such hypocrites?"

"We are not hypocrites!" Carolina was about to talk her parents' ears off when Rafael placed an arm around her shoulder, leaning in to whisper in her ear.

"Aren't they just the cutest, Milo?" Carolina's mother cooed to her husband. Her husband nodded in agreement but before he could say anything Carolina cut in.

"You guys disgust me." Carolina stormed off, Raven and Dahlia following their mother, and Rafael stayed behind to give one last glare to Carolina's parents before leaving the room just as Carolina did.

NATALYA WAS RESTING PEACEFULLY ON the couch, playing with a dagger as she waiting for Rafael to come back with Carolina. Noel stood at the window, peeking through the velvet curtains and staring blankly at the acres and acres of land that was covered in grass and with trees surrounding the entire property.
