Our Promises Must Sail

Chapter 1

Ella's POV

My mind was racing as I drove to the doctors office, but I couldn't be excited or relieved just yet. My appointment was for 10:45 at the moment it's 10:20. The doctors office is about a thirty minute drive from my apartment. The reason for making this appointment is to confirm whether or not I'm pregnant. A few days ago I took three pregnancy tests two of which came out negative, but there was one positive test.

As I walked into the doctors office I signed myself in and waited to be called in by a nurse. As I sat and waited I let my mind wander as to how I'm going to tell Brady if it turns out I am pregnant. Brady is my boyfriend, and we've been together for five years. We met at a formal dance both hanging out with our own friends, until he came up to me and asked me to dance with him. I happily accepted and while we were dancing we talked and ended up becoming good friends. Three weeks later, he asked me out on a date and from there it escalated.

How will Brady react? Will he be as excited as I am? Does he even want kids? Will I even be a good mother?

"Ella?" My thoughts were interrupted by one of the nurses calling my name. I stood up and walked towards her. "Follow me please." She stated as I followed her to the back and waited for my next instructions.

30 mins later

I sat in the examination table waiting for the doctor to come in with my results and tell me if I'm pregnant. It's been at least thirty minutes since I took a urine test. I shifted nervously on the table,my hands intertwined with each other repeatedly as I fidgeted with them. I watched the room,corner to corner, as I was waiting for the doctor to come in...

The door opened and in walked Dr. Kathleen . "Good morning Ella, I have your results here from your urine test. It turns out that you are...pregnant. Congratulations! And according to our tests your about 1 month pregnant. Have you had any symptoms such as vomiting,unusual food cravings,or fatigue? I wasn't able to speak just yet, so I just nodded my head. "Did you ever think about it possibly meaning you were pregnant?

"N-No." I somehow stuttered out.

"You seem shocked so on the way out we'll give you some brochures to look through."

After I asked the doctor some more questions about my pregnancy we left the examination room and Dr. Kathleen had me stop at the desk to pick up my brochures she told me about.

Once I arrived home I headed straight for the bedroom and laid out the brochures that were given to me at the doctors. One of the three brochures read "What to Expect During Pregnancy." another "Thinking About Adoption?" and finally "Healthy Eating During Pregnancy." I first read over "What to Expect During Pregnancy" then slightly skimmed over "Healthy Eating During Pregnancy",once I finished those two I couldn't bring myself to read "Thinking About Adoption" because this little cell that was slowly growing inside me was what Brady and I created from our love and I didn't want that love to be passed on to a different family.

"Ella honey, where are you?" I heard Brady call from the entrance of our apartment.

"I'm in the bedroom!" Quickly, I gathered up all the brochures and hid them in between the bed mattresses so Brady wouldn't find them. I squealed as Brady walked the short difference between us and scooped me up into his arms.

"Are you feeling any better?" Right, this morning I told him I felt bad so I was going to go to the doctor instead of my classes.

"Yeah, I feel a lot better. Definitely needed to stay home today."

"That's great." I simply nodded my head in agreement.

We stayed embraced in each other's arms for a few more minutes then we parted from each other and headed to our small kitchen to make dinner. After dinner we cleaned up our mess and went into the bedroom and I helped Brady with his study's. Brady was studying to be an athletic trainer which takes at least two years so this was his last year in college while I still had one more year to become a doctor.
