He was a man now. Yet he still felt like he was a child.
The water that ran from the fountain, splashed onto his hand. Was he sad still?
Soobin frowned to himself. His mother had sat on the couch crying, "Why didn't you say anything?" she choked out. Wiping away her tears, she looked at her son for an answer. Any answer.
"I didn't need you worrying about me," A boy whispered, looking down while fiddling with the side of his pants.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T NEED ME TO WORRY ABOUT YOU?" Soobin's mother yelled.
Standing up, the boy yelled," I MEAN THAT WE HAVE ENOUGH PROBLEMS! WE CAN'T AFFORD MEDICINE OR PILLS OR THE HOSPITAL BILLS, MOM!" He whispered the last part with tears falling down his cheeks. Buckling to the floor, he ran his hands through his hair, trying to calm himself. It didn't work, he was just crying harder, his heart starting to hurt.
"I'm so sorry, Hyun-woo," Soobin's mother said, walking over to her son and hugging him. "I'm sorry."
Soobin leaned against his room door listening to his mom and Hyun-Woo cry and all he could do was stay there and cry himself.
Soobin closed his eyes slowly. How times were different now. Soobin's brother had been in his last year of high school when he got sick. It wasn't just some simple cold that would go away after three days; no, it was a sickness of a lifetime, though he didn't know at the time. No one did.
His brother was gone now. Everything in the past was. Except his best friend, who'd came back to him after so long. Everything that was a memory hurt him somehow. Even sometimes looking at his mom hurt too much, yet he still visited her every week.
Ji-hoon also came into his mind every so often; his boy, oh his light wavy hair, and freckles. Soobin had been in love with him. He'd always been so calm and Soobin always thought that was what he liked about him. Yet he was left in the past too. So many words that weren't said that day. Soobin thought of him when he regretted his choices.
A sad smile painted his face. He wondered why all theses thoughts came to him today. Ji-hoon used to tell him he never tried to be who he wanted to be. Well, this was him trying.
He was where he was supposed to be.
Hyun-woo would tell him not to ever stop doing what he strove to be, at least he told Soobin that on the days he was well enough to talk. Most of the time he was too sick. Hyun-woo was a kind but stern soul. He was his older brother that he looked up to, that was until he grew taller.
"Soobin."
He turned around. Taehyun walked towards him in a white button up shirt tucked into black dress pants.
"I thought I'd find you out here"
Soobin smiled and turned back toward the water once Taehyun was beside him. "Yeah, I was just thinking," he whispered through his lips.
Taehyun stared at him with a sad look and sighed. It was quiet.
Soobin broke the silence with, "Do you ever think of how different things are now?"
Taehyun let out a laugh. "All the time."
Soobin opened his mouth to speak but Taehyun beat him to it. "Hyun-woo would be happy that you're here, that you're where you are."
Soobin smiled. He knew his brother would be, and was about to agree when Taehyun quietly added, "So would Ji-hoon."
Soobin looked down. Would Ji-hoon be? He guessed it didn't really matter now. The only thing he really wanted to say was what he never got to. I love you and I'm sorry.
"Anyway." Taehyun patted him on the back. "We have to go back in, people are arriving. The celebration awaits us."
Soobin groaned but smiled. "I guess we have a show to put on now, don't we?"
"Yup, you guessed right. Let's go."
As they were walking up the stairs to the mansion, Taehyun said, "Did I tell you I invited a close friend of mine?"
Soobin shook his head.
"Oh really? Well, they brought their cousin along with them. Who is, I repeat, a K-pop idol."
Soobin nodded, not understanding why this mattered but smiled nevertheless.
Taehyun sighed. "Which is good for us because we will have more genres here. This will get out to the public and more of K-pop idols will come in the future."
"Are you sure thats how it works?"
Soobin didn't her Taehyun's reply. He looked back at the fountain and thought of his brother.
Remembering what today was, and everything you wanted for me. And how you use to tell me my wings could reach farther then I thought. It made me think of you.
