It was a Sunday that my ex and me broke up,and by Monday morning, I was no means "over" the breakup, I was feeling ever so slightly hopeful;or at least looking forward to having a amazing breakfast with my bestie.one of my female coworker she's like a sister to me;we were hired at the restaurant about the same time, and over six and a half years until this point in the story, she and I had became close and planned a breakfast get together to catch up on each other lives. A week aforementioned Monday, she and I have planned to meet for breakfast at the restaurant wear we worked-only I got called into work when a waitress got sick and went home.i didn't know at this time, but this was a game changing move. one of those moments were the universe intervenes because that particular event wasn't in keeping with the greater plan.
Truth be told,if I had met my friend for breakfast on that previously planned date,or if I had shown up to the restaurant even a single minute later on they day we did end up meeting,Brandon and I would never have met. my life would be drastically different right now. funny how the smallest little decisions and changes can alter the entire plot of your life. on that Monday morning January 19 of 2009,i woke up, got showered and dressed, and headed out to a 9:00 A.M. breakfast with my friend.like usual,i was running a couple minutes late.
Once I arrived I parked my car and walked across the lot and into my dad's diner where my friend Becca was waiting in line to be seated.we chatted for about tweety seconds before the outside restaurant doors swung open and,to my surprise, there was Mrs.H! She seemed excited to see me. And exclaimed "Rosie! I know this might seem strange, and I know you have a boyfriend, but my son is in town-we were just leaving, when I saw you coming in-I would love for you to come and meet him!"
I gave her a hug and laughed, saying,"well ,"actually,me and my boyfriend broke up yesterday,so its ok."
I'd thought that I would humor her. many proud mothers have bragged about their sons to me before, and if or when I did end up meeting these "handsome" men, things were usually awkward and anything but a match made in heaven.
Mrs.H led me outside her car was a few feet away, and the driver's side door was opened where she had gotten out of. I peered into the car and there he was:the infamous son. I'd be lying if I said I heard a choir of angles singing, or if I said a bright line shone upon him like some supernatural vision of god, but there truly was a instant attraction.he reached over from the passage side seat to shake my hand and said,"hi! Nice to finally meet you!"
He had the bluest eyes I'd ever seen, and from then on I was in some what of a stupor, which is not unusual for me when faced with awkward social situations (especially involving shockingly attractive members of the opposite sex).
I said something along the lines of,"its really nice to meet you too!I've heard lots about you,and I just love your mother!"
Mrs.H mentioned then that Brandon was going back to California tomorrow morning but would be back in a couple of weeks. I replied saying "Maybe we would see each other again" after that the conversation started to wrap up.
But in typical Rosie fashion,i had to say at least one stupid thing before going along my merry way,so just as I turned around to walk back to the restaurant, I decided to poke my head in the car and one more time say,"oh, excuse me sir? What did you say your name was again?i already forgot!" Yes, I called him sir. And as soon as that word flew out of my mouth I was mortified with myself.why the !@#$ did I just call him "sir?" What an idiot!
He just laughed and said "Brandon".
"Oh ok thanks" I replied.
Then they left. I walked back into the restaurant where Becca was waiting, and just a couple moments later we were seated at our table near the kitchen.
We ordered are breakfast and, after a few more minutes later, the hostess walked up to are table and handed me a note. " a guy just came back in told me to give you this. he saw you sitting with Becca and didn't want to be rude and interrupt, your conversation." she told me
My heart skipped a beat.i unfolded the note.Brandon had written for me and I couldn't believe what it said it had his name and phone number on it and the message said:be back in two weeks it would be great to hear from you!
I was shaking. I can't believe it,I felt like I was dreaming.my mind was racing with thoughts like does he like me ,will he ask me out. but It felt awful to be thinking entertaining thoughts of another relationship so soon after my last one ended.
One of the waitress at my dads restaurant, she's a good friend stopped by are table to read the note.she had seen the whole thing unfold, and the way Brandon came back and started back at me as I chatted obliviously with my friend.with a knowing look on her face, she said "Roise, it's a good thing."
Mrs.H and Brandon both corroborate the story that, when they had left the restaurant after our initial meeting, Brandon's matter of factly told his mother that I was the one. That he knew it. and she said she has always known it. she told him about what I said about my ex boyfriend and me breaking up, and Brandon demanded she turn back. they came back,he scribbled his note on that little piece of paper, and he went back to find me.
And I could just say"the rest is history," but that really wouldn't be the story the part that comes next is half the fun! I suppose that sometimes fate might whisper, but in our case, it screamed.
