["Trust your time, it can give you roses when you're expecting thorns."]
From the previous day's terror, somehow, I managed to sleep soundly. When my eyes opened, the sudden realization of it flooded and I felt more overwhelmed than I had in my entire life. The teardrops fell onto the lilac sheets that covered my legs. Why was I like this? Secretly sobbing because I couldn't do better - because I didn't bother to save him.
My wobbly knees stayed strong through the pain, through the sorrow. I managed to come to my feet, dreading every next step into the reality where I had no idea what I was going to do. I was stuck and had absolutely nowhere to go, nowhere to think. To get away and step into my head.
I needed to stay strong. For Gianna. Her well being was the most important factor of it all. If she breaks, we break. Like a bunch of dominoes. If one falls, so do the rest.
I slipped on some day clothes and exited my room towards the stairwell. Just yesterday I was feeling uneasy over this, over everything - and still had no clue. I blankly descended the stairs, pondering what everyone would say or what they'd do. What they were thinking about all of this.
My entrance to the great room seemed as if I was glowing a bright vibrance, though I wasn't. My eyes were puffy and my body was limp. I felt so worthless - possibly even lifeless - as the day began. It matched the descriptions of everyone else, except the ones who were significantly injured.
"Now that all of you are up and ready," Gianna announced, eyes just as puffy as mine, "I'm stating the new rescue members, known as the 'Boom Squad.'"
'Boom Squad?' What kind of nonsense name is that? Whatever. I thought to myself. My chance of being chosen was 5%. Not high, nor low. Yes, it was neutral. Though I somehow wanted to be chosen. To set an example.
"I have chosen, firstly, number one. Thorne, you lead the rest." His face was victorious, just if he won something valuable. Gianna cupped his cheek as a motherly gesture.
"I have chosen him because he is a valuable target for locating Cedric." She explained.
"Two is Hugo, my sweet angel baby, with his strength and stealth he can definitely be a value."
I sniffed to break the uncomfortable silence, and stood straighter for my benefit. There was really no use, however, she already made up her intelligent mind.
"Next is number four, Niko. Your mini visions of people all over the world can help narrow down his location as well. And you're a good fighter, because I know the capturers won't go down without a fight." Niko ran his hand through his hair, making his overused beanie fall down. He kneeled to pick it up and covered his dark brown nest with it, acting as a blanket.
"Fourth will be number five, Celia. Your invisibility skills can help significantly."
All four of them were smug and proud of themselves, making the rest of us insecure about our powers when we really shouldn't.
"My fifth choice is Khai, my sweet water boy. Your combat skills are what made you chosen, my dear." He kissed her cheek in gratitude.
Then there was the last person. Was it Cohen? No, he's a pain in the ass to work with, having unmeasurable stubbornness. Maybe Elle with her persuasion. It cannot be me, no questions asked.
Gianna cleared her throat and ran her eyes down the row of unpicked kids, wanting their name to be called. A mission like this is very important, and a failure can result in Cedric's life.
"For the first time, and hopefully not the last, I have chosen for my sixth and final member..." She sang, gliding to each word as if it was a music piece, all put together.
