Mac woke up to the sound of his cell phone ringing. Like every morning, he got up, took a shower, shaved and put on his socks and shoes. He put his wallet and cell phone in his pockets and walked out the door, locked it then went to the elevator.
Mac was halfway to work when he realized he left Didyme at his apartment. He ran home and saw the little girl was already dressed and had her shoes on. He sighed in relief, glad that she didn't wander out into the city.
"I'm ready, Daddy," she smiled at him.
He leaned down and picked up the little girl whose curls matched her mother's when Peyton hadn't straitened her hair, "I see that."
She took his hand in her's when he put her down so they could walk to the crime lab. Mac watched her smile and skip through the building to get to his office. He sat her down in his office.
"I want you to stay here. Do you understand me, Didyme?" He asked seriously.
She nodded, "Yes, Daddy, I understand."
Mac nodded and left the office and shut the blinds after locking the door. As he walked away he was caught by Jo Danville.
"What was that all about?" She asked, adjusting her black hair out of her face.
"A change in plans," he replied.
"Does she have to do with a case?"
"Yes and no."
"Then what?"
"She's my daughter, Jo!" He yelled, annoyed with her badgering.
Jo froze, "Don't have a daughter."
"I just found out myself. Her mom used to work with Sid. Her name is Peyton."
"Your daughter or her mother?"
"Her mother, her name is Didyme. Strange, I know. I didn't pick it."
"Obviously," Jo smiled. "She's adorable."
"Thanks," Mac mumbled, looking at the little girl who was drawing with pen at his desk. "Jo, I want you to take her fingerprints."
"Why?" Jo asked. "She's three."
"To make sure that she's my daughter and if it doesn't come up as a match do a blood test and don't ask any questions."
Jo nodded and walked into Mac's office. She unlocked the door and sat down in front of the little girl. Jo grabbed a pen and started drawing as well.
"Do you think my daddy will like my picture?" Didyme asked, holding up a stick person family.
"Who's that?" Jo said pointing to each person.
Didyme pointed to the tallest figure with long hair," that's my mommy," she pointed to the smallest figure with long hair, "that's me," she punted to the tallest figure out of the three with short hair, "and that's my daddy."
Jo smiled at the little girl, "I think he'll love it."
The little girl smiled and stood up. Didyme put tape on the paper and stuck it to the computer screen. She took a step back to admire her work.
"Do you want to see something cool?" Jo asked the little girl.
Didyme nodded quickly and took Jo's hand in her tiny one. They walked through the lab and into the analysis room. Jo reached into a drawer and pulled out a piece of paper and black ink.
"Put your fingers in this black pad," Didyme did as told and pushed her fingers into the ink pad. "Now, put one finger in this box on the paper."
Didyme pushed her fingers down onto the paper as hard as she could. When she finally pulled her hand away she stared at the paper in awe.
"My fingers are very talented," Didyme said, picking up the paper with her clean hand. "I can't believe they made such pretty pictures. "
Jo smiled and scanned Didyme's prints. After about three minuets and cleaning off Didyme's fingers , the fingerprints scanner went off. Didyme jumped and turned to the machine.
The screen said 'match found' and Jo walked over. She looked at the pictures and profiles on the screen. The was a picture of Mac and a woman names Peyton. Jo looked at Didyme. She was the spitting image if her mother.
Jo printed off the results and turned to the little girl, "I have one more test for you."
Didyme nodded. Jo drew some of the little girl's blood and ran it through quotas. Another minuet and bandaid went by and the blood results were in. Mac and Peyton's files came up once again.
"Let's go and find your daddy," Jo said and handed Didyme the result papers.
"Why are Mommy and Daddy's pictures on this paper?"
"It was a test," Jo replied, picking Didyme up.
