𝙰𝚄𝚃𝙷𝙾𝚁'𝚂 𝙽𝙾𝚃𝙴:  This has been a little bit overdue and I was supposed to post it yesterday. When I posted the first chapter, I was initially almost done with the rough draft of the second chapter. But my own carelessness resulted in that draft being deleted.  And I was annoyed at myself and how much work went down the drain so I inevitably procrastinated out of spite and to recollect myself because writing while I’m pissed will only result to a rather aggressive narration. And it just so happens that I have no back-up file of that draft because I was just about done with it. But what’s done is done. I rewrote what I could remember and while I was really satisfied with that draft, I also gave my best in this one.

Chapter Two: Heiress

iv. And her body is made from thorns

1989, December 28th

Thursday morning in Tokyo, Japan

Three days had passed since the birth of Asakura Izuna and just as Torakichi expected, it spiraled the clan into a state of both discombobulation and elation minutes after her arrival was announced. And as much as Torakichi was thrilled, he’s also troubled by this headache caused by Izuna’s rather shocking introduction the sorcerer society. On one hand, his people rejoiced and prompted a celebratory gathering to welcome the promising heiress. People went out of their house, lit up handmade lanterns and watched as they flew to the night sky — a tradition that Torakichi’s father once told him that happens whenever a powerful heir is born but has yet to be done in years. It didn’t even happened to Torakichi right after his birth because he only managed to manifest his shadow manipulation technique at age four and truly dabbled in the art of sorcery when he discovered that ability.

So to see his own flesh and blood have that celebration is enough to fill his heart with pride. The child he held and he conceived with the wife that people initially disagreed with, having both Helm and his technique at birth? There’s no better gift for the deities to bless him. This could be his chance to make everything right again. To take back their glory and to shape Izuna as the most powerful Asakura — even more powerful than Daiki, the late clan head he respected and revered from childhood. And now that people knew of Izuna’s potential, she also managed to receive their hope in return. And Torakichi will make sure she’ll go beyond everyone’s expectations.

Usually, their family would just immediately retire right after the birth of the firstborn was announced — for the sake of the infant and for the mother to recuperate — but this situation differed since Helm was seen after years and years of longing for it. People were thrilled and they wanted to see it with their own eyes. And even if they won’t be able to see the young lady right away, they stayed to marvel at the potent cursed energy that’s swirling over the residence. The feeling of danger had subside and all was left was an odd feeling of misplacement. As if the heiress was telling the people they she did not mind their presence but they still did not belong in that place. For some, it was unnerving, envious and even joyful. And the elders specially basked in nostalgia and took advantage of the situation to relive their youthful days and how their own grandparents would tell the tale of Helm.
