It was a ten-minute walk from my house to Lucas', but I didn't mind it. It actually gave me time to myself, to think about how idiotic I was and how shitty I am for lying to Aiden like that.

I tried my best to keep those negative thoughts out of my mind. Just as long as Lucas and I can get our work done quickly, I can leave and make it to Aiden as if it never happened . . . except for the fact that this was an ongoing project that didn't last only a single day.

The sky was getting somewhat darker while I walked. I was never scared of the shit like that but Lucas' house was in a part of the neighborhood that entered a dead-end road, and I've watched too many movies. I'd usually be having dinner at this time.

My mom already knew I wasn't going to be at home anyway, and my dad usually didn't care about my whereabouts unless my mother did. James and I would be making each other food at this hour, but instead, I'm walking to a different boy's house.

Sure, it's nice that I'm starting to open up and be able to speak to other people without getting as nervous but—why with Lucas?

I don't understand why I was getting so stressed out just from being paired with him. Maybe because we've only had less than ten minutes of interaction, and yet Aiden already hated him? Or because Lucas in general was never this bright in class before so now it's making me uncomfortable? Or maybe because Lucas' hair eerily represented that of the blonde hair sticking out from behind the trees yesterday?

Shit, did that actually happen?

Honestly, the nightmares that have been piling up since then made the experience itself feel like a dream. I'm not sure if I ever even saw hair that day or if it was just another figment of my imagination.

Besides the point—I'm sure there's nothing to be worried about here.

Right?

I looked up from my feet, finally, and saw Lucas' house standing tall before me. By tall, I mean really tall.

His house looked like it didn't fit the neighborhood it was sitting in. The thing looked like some modern house you'd find in Carter's neighborhood, where all the rich people lived. I rarely passed by this road as it wasn't towards the school nor was it towards the main road, thus giving me no reason to be here or see the mansion-looking building until today.

Only seconds later of continuous staring did I notice that my mouth was gaping open.

I immediately pressed my lips together and straightened my posture. It only felt right standing in front of a fancy-looking house like this one.

With my grip tightened on the backpack straps across my shoulders, I warily strode up the first few steps of the porch's stairs. And just before I could reach the top step and finally ring the doorbell, I felt my phone vibrate in my back pocket.

A text from Aiden;

Aiden: i can come over there if u want...

Aiden: i can sit with you, and help you with ur homework

Aiden: and i'm sorry for seeming so pissed off earlier

It only felt right to text him back.

Me: don't worry about it, a

Me: but i really can't, ok? i need to focus on my school work :(

Aiden: vinnie ://

Me: i'm gonna be too distracted with you there
