Present Day
It was another day at Hogwarts, my final year as a student here. I sat at the back of Potions, not really listening to Professor Slughorn's lesson on Veritaserum. I lay my head on my hand, staring at the markings drawn or etched into the desk, my other hand tracing over some of the etchings as my thoughts were on something other than Potions. It was the month of April, next month would be the year anniversary of my loves passing, Y/N. Everyday is a day of misery but May 2nd was a day of pure agony to my already shredded heart. Ever since my dear Y/N was murdered by the hands of Antonin Dolohov, I've been walking through life in a state of suffering and torment, like I was a lost fucking dog abandoned by his owner. The only light I ever had was ripped away from me that day, nothing would ever bring that back to me. I was jolted out of my thoughts when I heard Slughorn's voice call my name. "Malfoy, what is the most important ingredient to the Veritaserum?" he queried.
"Jobberknoll Feathers." I answered blatantly, going back to tracing the engravings on the desk.
"Correct, 5 points to Slytherin." Back then I'd smirk at myself for getting my house points, Y/N would shove me slightly, a simper that mirrored my own. I ignored Slughorn's praise and reached for my Potions book, turning to the page of Veritaserum ingredients. I read the passage, not really taking in the details of the potion as I was focused on the painful memories of Y/N, like every other day I would. I heard the screech of the stool next to me and I glanced up to see Theodore Nott, one of my good friends in Slytherin house.
"Hey mate, we're supposed to partner up for this lesson." He grinned, taking the seat next to me.
"Okay, just set the tools up while I get the ingredients and shit." I move to the left side of the classroom, grabbing the ingredients I needed from the shelves and then turning back to my desk. I placed the ingredients on the table, Theo already finished with setting up the tools. I read the method of the potion as Theo pipes up again. "So there's a party tonight in the Hufflepuff common room, Blaise, Pansy and I are gonna go, you should tag along."
"No thanks, I've got Charms shit I need to do." That was a lie. I already finished all of my extra work I needed to do and really didn't have anything to do, I just never really have the energy to go to common room parties like I used to. Theo raised a brow and scoffed,
"What, the work you literally finished yesterday with Blaise and I? C'mon, you gotta get out more man, being cooped up in your dorm isn't doing you any good." I rolled my eyes,
"Okay well, I'm busy with other shit so no, I can't come."
"That's bullshit and you know it, we've all noticed you just stay in your dorm, sleeping your life away. This is your last year here and soon we'll be in the outside world with responsibilities and shit, you gotta make the most of the freedom you have left." he puts a hand on my shoulder and says softly, "She would've wanted you to live your life with fun." my eyes widened and my head snaps towards him. He looked at my with sincerity in his eyes and I just sighed. I shook my head in defeat,
"Fine, whatever I'll come." Theo smiles wide.
"Great! It starts at seven thirty and the password is Friars' Goblet." he turns back to his work and we continue on with the lesson.
It was lunch and everyone was bustling with excitement, probably because of the party that was happening tonight. Pansy was going on about what she was going not wear to Daphne and Astoria, the girls giggling and gossiping about who they were going to hook up with and what not. Theo and Blaise were talking about the same thing, which chick they hope they'd get to shag. I listened to both the conversations, not saying much and just nodding when I needed to. I watched everyone in the Great Hall, examining on what the other students were doing. I could see Hermione was buried in a book as per usual, most likely for study than for enjoyment. I always thought she was kind of a snob and know it all and she was always one step further than me in every class, I was always second best because of her. I scowled at myself and adverted my eyes to Neville. He was admiring some stupid plant, something he usually wastes his time with. I rolled my eyes and turned back to Theo and Blaise who were now discussing a list of the hottest girls in our year.
