"I'll be better Uncle Vernon, I swear!"

Growling, Diary Riddle snapped open his eyes. He was sitting in a meditative position, in a futile attempt to poke at an irregularity in his mindscape. His mind was regularly flooded with memories that weren't his.

ꞨAre you okay, Master?Ꞩ

ꞨYes, MedusaꞨ He muttered distractedly to the large basilisk. He just couldn't figure it out. Why the hell would he be having memories of abuse? No one agreed to foster him, they were too busy with the Muggle War. And he made sure everyone at the orphanage obeyed him. So who was the large man that looked like a walrus? The horsy woman with the long neck? Diary Riddle sighed. No matter what, he never got answers. His mind turned to the Potter brat. The reason he was stuck in this limbo-like state. After that boy had stabbed the diary, Tom was forced back to Salazar's chambers. Medusa was saved by the illusion, thank Merlin. Salazar would legit kill him. Speaking of the green and silver founder.

"What bothers you, Shadow Heir?"

"I merely cannot understand. I have visions of abuse, though I do not know the source."

"Perhaps you are seeing your mate?" Slytherin shifted in his portrait, his piercing green eyes staring off into the distance.

"My mate?" While Tom Riddle was a vampire, Diary Riddle didn't know if he was. He was only a piece of Tom Riddle's soul. Or, Lord Voldemort's soul. And he sincerely doubted that his mate was around 50 years younger than him.

"It's possible that since you have become your own person, you gained your own mate." Salazar returned his gaze to Diary Riddle. "Regardless, Shadow Heir, I would advise trying to find your creature. Bond with it, and finding your mate will be much easier."

"Very well." Diary Riddle settled back, his mind slipping into the meditative trance he had grown used to the past four years.

He arrived in his mindscape, the winding halls of the Slytherin dungeons. The irregularity wasn't here, however. It was in the common room, in the illusion of the fireplace. Diary Riddle, with great effort, walked past that to the Heir room. This was where he stored everything that related to his past self, and he had yet to sort through it. It showed.

Various memories were scattered around like sheets of parchment. None of them were what he was looking for. Finally, he found it in the closet. A vampire was staring back at him, red eyes glowing.

"I guess that answers it." Diary Riddle examined the vampire. It was exactly like him, except with the fangs, red eyes, pale skin, and black hair.

"You sure took your time," the vampire rolled his eyes. "Can I get out of the closet? This place is cramped."

Diary Riddle stepped back. He had been separated when Voldemort had gotten his inheritance, so he didn't know what a creature would entail.

"I'm going to take that as a yes." The vampire stepped out gracefully, and looked down. "What have you been doing with your time?"

Diary Riddle went on the defensive. His posture straightened. "I haven't had time."

"Yes, well, I'm not speaking with you in a messy room. Let's go to the common room."

"Hold up." The vampire halted and looked back questioningly. "Who are you, what are you, and how do you know all of that?"

"Isn't it obvious?" Diary Riddle heard the eye roll even as the vampire turned back around. The vampire strode out the door, forcing Diary Riddle to keep up or be left behind. Once they reached the illusion of the common room, the vampire sat down on a couch.

"That doesn't answer anything," Diary Riddle growled, taking a seat opposite of the infuriating creature.

"Well, I'm your creature. A vampire. My name's Cadmus, and I know that because I am you. Or at least, a part of you."

"Part of me?" Diary Riddle glanced over at Cadmus incredulously. "What do you mean by 'part of me'?"

"Exactly what you think. Part of you. I'm your creature side. I come out when you're angry or scared or find your mate." Cadmus crossed his legs and locked eyes with Diary Riddle. "When anything locks me up, you start to descend into madness. Probably why you thought it was a wise idea to kill everything in sight."

"That's not true!" Diary Riddle was unable to maintain the cool gaze. "I just, just got carried away with purifying the school." The excuse sounded weak even to him.

"And in doing so risked Medusa's life." Cadmus's tone brooked no argument. Diary Riddle kept his eyes on the fire as he heard Cadmus sigh. "Look, I'm not here to antagonize you. I'm a part of you. You let me out so you could know for certain what was happening with you, yes? I want the same things you do. Just a bit more basic, primal, and emotional."

Diary Riddle nodded, meeting the red eyes once again. "So what is happening to me?"

"I can't say for certain. I'm able to pick out certain things, like my origin and what I am, because you know that and it's organized. I can't describe it in words, simply because I don't think in words or analyze things the same way you do. I don't think 'this person is annoying, how am I going to get them to stop', I just feel annoyed and lash out."

Diary Riddle processed this. "Do you know where I can find it?"

Cadmus closed his eyes for a second. When he opened them, he wore an expression of confusion. "I believe that you already know, but it's not organized."

Diary Riddle thought about this. If he already knew it, it was in his mindscape. But that didn't make sense, all information he knew was organized except for the point in time before he branched off from Tom Riddle.

"So I have to go sifting for information."

"Yep. I'll be here, though after you're finished I'm taking the Heir room."

"No, you're helping me." Diary Riddle concentrated and shifted them both to the Heir room. Cadmus appeared on the chair at the desk while Diary Riddle landed on the bed.

"I'll get started on the creature information. You get started on the abuse." Diary Riddle grasped a 'pile' of thoughts and started sifting through it.

"Yay," Cadmus replied sarcastically before looking at the ones on the desk. "This is going to take a while."
