Suddenly Danielle's closet seemed empty. "God...what am I going to wear?" She muttered to herself, flipping through the hangers. As she held up shirts, looking in the mirror, the phone rang and she pulled it off the top of the dresser.
"Hello?" She answered in an annoyed tone, using her shoulder to hold the phone against her ear.
"Oi, someone's in a mood today." The other line laughed.
"What do you want, Este?"
"Jeez, I was just wondering if you wanted to go get something to eat before practice. Lonz is thinking tacos."
"That's nice but ill have to pass."
"What? You don't want tacos? Are you feeling alright?" Este interrogated, genuinely concerned.
"I'm fine, I'll just be busy that's all."
"Busy?"
"Yea...I've got somewhere to be.."
"Oh my god it's a guy isn't it? You're going on a date aren't you? I knew that's why you were so happy! Lanzo! You owe me twenty bucks!"
"Dammit." Alana could be heard muttering in the background.
"Este," Danielle groaned,"stop it. There is no guy. I have to go so I'm hanging up now okay bye." She ended the call before the other line could protest.
-
"So is there a guy or not?" Alana watched her sister set down the phone.
"She says no...but I'm like 100% sure she's lying."
"Well we can interrogate her at lunch."
"Nope. She's blowing off cause she's 'busy.'" Her fingers air quoted the last word.
"Oh my god it's totally a guy.."
"I know right? I have a better idea than getting taco's though."
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"Stakeout!" They exclaimed in unison, pointing at each other and cracking up
-
"Are you sure this is where she is?"
The two stood in the entrance of the restaurant, peering around at all the tables.
"Yea. It's says her phones right here. See? She's the little dot."
"Isn't it kinda creepy we can stalk her like this?"
"Totally."
"Can I help you girls?" The hostess interrupted.
"Oh uh, table for two please?"
-
"Oh my god that's her!" The younger girl hit the table to grab Este's attention from across the booth.
"Where?" She looked up from her menu.
Down on the lower level of the restaurant Danielle took a seat at her table, back from the bathroom. Two menus were out, though the other chair remained empty.
"Do you think she can see us?"
"Doubt it. But she's looking great. This must be some man."
"Yea. Look how nervous she is." The guitarist drummed her fingers on the table, constantly glancing up at the entrance whenever she heard the sound of the door opening.
"Aw my little Yelly belly.."
"God you are such a mom." Alana scoffed.
"Oh, how you wound me." The blonde feigned hurt.
As they spoke a tall blonde girl came and greeted Danielle, taking a seat across from her.
"Who is that?"
"I don't know but my god she is gorgeous. She looks like she's been plucked straight out of the 70s."
"I know just look at that hair."
"Who knew D swung that way? But I can see why."
"Wait, you think this is a date?" Este furrowed her brow.
"You don't?"
"Well...I don't know. That could just be a friend."
"Then why was she being so secretive?" The younger girl countered.
"I-I don't know. I just feel like she would have told us about this."
"E, you know how she is when it comes to talking about her feelings."
"I guess... But we shouldn't jump to any conclusions. It's not fair to her."
"I suppose you're right. Look how happy she is, though." She pointed down at Danielle who had big, goofy grin on her face.
"God she's such a dork. If this is a date she better not fuck it up. They would be such a cute couple."
"Agreed."
-
"So its like a legit band?"
"Yea, we actually just got back from tour last week."
"Wow that is so cool. Like really cool.."
Danielle felt her cheeks start to turn red. "Thanks. It's still kinda surreal, all of it. For years our only fans were our parents. It wasn't till the last year or two that anyone else cared."
"Well, you definitely seem like you deserve every bit of success that you've earned. I feel kinda shitty that I didn't know about you guys till now."
"No-no please, don't worry about it. Honestly."
"Okay, but I'm totally gonna listen to your whole catalogue when I get home."
She was even nicer than Danielle had remembered. Prettier too. She couldn't fight the strange feeling in her chest every time she smiled. She had been so nervous for this, but she felt surprisingly comfortable around Liz. As they spoke, their hands brushed together. The dark haired girl's breath hitched. She felt like she was back in high school and talking to a cute boy.
"Alright, enough about me, what do you do?"
"Oh, well it's not quite as exciting as you but I'm an attorney at one of the local law firms. Pretty lame in comparison, actually."
"No, that's really impressive. Like, I didn't even go to college."
"Hey, at least you saved a ton on student loans. Just thinking about how expensive school was makes me uneasy."
-
They talked for quite a while. Danielle's not sure if she's ever met someone so easy to talk to.
"I'm really sorry, but I've got to get back to work. I wish I could stay longer. We should totally do this again." Liz stood.
"Totally. I'll talk to you later, then?" She stood with her.
"Yep. This was so great. Thank you."
"Well, you did save me from some creep, it was the least I could do."
The blonde laughed lightly, leaning over and pecking her on the cheek. "Well, I'll see you soon. Don't be surprised if I know all the lyrics to your songs by then."
And with that, she left. The spot were her lips had met her cheek tingled. She couldn't stop the smile that broke out across her face.
-
"Oh my god, she kissed her!"
"What?" Este looked up from her plate. "Like a real kiss?"
"Well, just on the cheek but look at her."
"Aw. She is blushing so hard."
"Dude, she is so into her."
