Moving in was the fucking worst. There were people absolutely everywhere. I was forced to watch encouraging and helpful family members move their loved ones into dorms with seemingly bright eyes and hopeful mannerisms. I looked like a loser; I know I did. All alone with no help and running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to figure out where to go. Thankfully, after asking some staff members that were repping NYU merchandise, I was able to figure it out.

Step one: find my dorm. Check.

I found a parking garage, thankfully, and began to walk toward my residence hall. I squinted my eyes as I looked toward the sun, my new apartment building casting a huge shadow over the busy street.

"Third Avenue North," I mumbled to myself, checking my new student paperwork to be sure the name on the paperwork and the name on the building matched. I nodded my head once I realized the two names matched and took a deep breath, heading straight for the entrance.

Okay, Ava. You can do this. You're an adult now. Well, really you've always been an adult. Always had to care for yourself, with mom and dad thinking money would buy your love. You know, now that I'm thinking about it, it's kind of sad-

My train of thought came to an abrupt halt as I bumped into someone so hard that we hit heads and I fell straight on my ass. Great.

"Holy shit dude, are you okay?" I heard a high pitched, feminine voice ask. I winced, rubbing the right side of my head to try and ease the throbbing.

"Yeah, I'm so sorry. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going," I said quietly as I looked up. Oh fuck. This girl is stunning. She was petite, seems to be as tall as me. Beautiful, tanned skin and short, pin-straight black hair. Her eyes were the deepest brown I think I've ever seen. My eyes naturally trailed down her body, as her outfit was hard to miss. She was wearing a spunky orange crop top with a black leather skirt, followed by black combat boots.

"Are you done checking me out or.." my eyes widened and snapped up to hers as I not-so-gracefully stood back up.

"Uh I w-wasn't.. wasn't checking you out-"

"Dude, chill out. I'm just fucking with you," she laughed. I let out a breath of relief as I wiped my sweaty hands on my jeans. I lightly smiled at her and she stuck out her right hand.

"I'm Bethany, most people call me Beth. You can honestly call me whatever you want, I don't really care. You a first year?"

I stuck out my hand to shake hers while nodding, a mutually firm grip coming from the both of us, "Ava," I introduced myself.

"Well, Ava, nice to meet you. You have a really pretty name. Mind if I call you Ave? I think it would suit you better," she rambled.

Step two: make my first friend. Check.

"Thanks. Yeah, that's fine. Hey, uh do you happen to know where 13B is?" I asked, hoping for some clarity. This building looked so fucking confusing. It was gorgeous, with a midnight black grand piano in the lobby that my hands were absolutely itching to play. The lighting was calming and dim, with ambient elevator music playing in the background.

"13B?! That's just a few doors down from me!! I'm 17B. Oh my god, this was basically fate!" She squealed as I winced at the sound. Beth grabbed my hand and immediately led me to the elevator. I was mailed my keys in order to make the move in process quicker, so I didn't have to worry about checking in. She pressed the elevator button and shortly after I heard a ding. I looked up to see the elevator to our left was opening and had a lit up arrow above it, signaling it was going to ascend. We stepped in and the doors closed, beginning our elevator ride.
