I rolled over, squinting as the light coming from my window reflected off my cornea. Surprisingly, my back wasn't hurting, considering I'd slept on the couch.
Wait a sec.
I'm not on the couch . . .
I immediately sat up, looking around my empty bedroom. How in the world had I gotten here? Leigh, Jesy and Katherine weren't supposed to come home until later today. I looked next to me, my eyes widening when I saw the faint yet distinct impression of a body, the sheets slightly flattened from where they'd been laying.
Someone had slept in my bed.
A shiver crawling up my back, I threw the blankets off and tiptoed to my bathroom door, pressing my ear to it. No sounds came from through, so I decided to take a chance and turn the handle. Empty. Quickly, I brushed my teeth and hair, feeling reluctant to explore the rest of the house.
"Hello?" I whisper-shouted, flitting down the stairs. I could hear a faint popping noise coming from the kitchen, and I was suddenly bombarded with the scent of . . . bacon?
"Hello?' I repeated, inching closer to the door, not daring to peek around the corner.
"In here!" A Geordie voice replied, making me jump. I jerked away from the doorway, surprised at the familiarity of the sound. No way . . .
"Jade?!" I squeaked, finally looking around the corner.
There she stood, her back to me, standing in front of the stove in her bra and underwear, curls mussed. I watched in complete shock as she turned around, an impish grin creeping across her face.
"Yes?"
". . ."
My feet seemed to work by themselves, even though my mind was running at a million miles an hour. I moved all the way inside the kitchen and took a few small steps towards her, rubbing my forehead in confusion. Maybe I need more sleep.
"Hi baba," she whispered, opening her arms up for a hug.
Fuck it. If this is a dream, then I'm gonna roll with it.
Again, my feet seemed to do the think for me, and before I knew it I was running full speed into her arms, my legs immediately wrapping around her torso. Still, I was having trouble believing this wasn't all a figment of my imagination.
"Jade," I whispered, hugging her neck tightly. "Are you really here?"
She laughed softly, her right hand supporting my back. "Yeah. I'm here. Good morning."
I let out a small squeal, finally realizing that she was indeed actually there, in the flesh. My mind, unlike before, was no longer buzzing with unanswered questions. All that really mattered was that Jade was with me, and I was with her. Everything else could wait.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, after kissing every inch of her face and hugging her some more.
She winked and slowly set me down on the ground, going back to the stove. "We've got rehearsal."
My eyes widened, remembering how Leigh had asked me to sing her and Andre's song at their wedding, with Jade. I didn't think she would get to rehearse, let alone come back three days early!
"Do you know when?" I asked, my arms encircling her waist from behind as she continued to make breakfast.
She shrugged. "Today, if that's alright with you."
