Sirius and James bowled through the doors of the Great Hall laughing and jeering between each-other, seemingly oblivious to the hundreds seated around them all glaring silently. I move further up the table so people don't think I'm affiliated with these buffoons but alas Sirius makes sure to create a spectacle.
"Sirius, what do you think you're doing mate?" I hear Remus mutter under his breath to Sirius. James and Sirius finally come and sit down at the Gryffindor table, and I see in my peripheral vision that Sirius has opened his mouth to say something to me. I turn my head around and look at him, and smell a stench of Firewhiskey emanating from his breath.
"So that's what you and James were scheming about in potions." I say bluntly, disappointment clear in my tone.
He stiffens a little and clear's his throat. "Is the smell that strong?" I can see he's trying not to laugh behind his suddenly serious facade.
Before I can get another two cents in, James catches Sirius's attention and I hear the two of them yapping away in my ear as I stare blankly at the food in front of me. Why does he never learn? Why does he never listen to me? It's not like I can blame James for being a bad influence either when I know that they are both as bad as each-other which makes it even worse, Sirius does it on his own accord.
I rest my head on my hand and stare across at the end of the Great Hall, gazing at the Slytherin Table. My glance meets the eyes of an intimidating stare, which I quickly link to Regulus Black's eyes, Sirius's younger brother. I flash him a half-hearted smile and go back to staring at the food in front of me. The distant ringing of Sirius's voice fills my head, and I feel rage creeping up my throat. I want to rip into him so badly in this moment, tell him how sick I am of his carelessness and foolery, how I wish he loved me like I loved him, how I'm hurt by the placeholder of Sirius Black because this is not the boy I grew up with and is certainly not the one I fell in love with.
"Opal, can you pass me a piece of bread?" James breaks my concentration and flashes me a charming grin.
"Sure, James."
