On the trail of DON

The shock of the 'cop's' death kept everyone frozen for about 10 seconds, but not Jackson, he was off and running the moment the man started to fall. He raced through the trees until he reached a tall balsam fir. It was a grand tree, standing bold and proud.

It was the tallest tree in the forest. Jackson paused at the foot of the tree and located what he was looking for. The ground was wet and showed footprints clearly. There was a specific indentation at the foot of the tree, it was that of a Nike climbing  boot. Jackson examined the print for one second then sped off, careful not to disturb the tracks he was following. The assassin Jackson was chasing was used to officials chasing after him, so he was a swift runner. Unfortunately he was unaccustomed to the dense woods.

After about ten grueling minutes of jogging DON started to loosen his guard, this was his first mistake. How could anyone catch him. On his way to the sniping tree, he made very clear indentations on the soft, mossy ground. He was following the ever-so-obvious trail he had made just hours ago. Who cares if the cops found the track, by then he would be in Maine, where he was getting 60 million dollars to wipe out a rich stock broker.

As he ran, DON started to realize something was wrong, he stumbled on some brambles. That in and of itself was not unusual, but as he stumbled he saw a second pair of tracks. The treads of his boots. But if those were his then who's track was he following?
