FISHES AND TRUST

CHAPTER 1

ASHLEY'S P.O.V

I could hear the sirens of a police car as I walked home. I was quite sure that Aunty Anna would have been proud of me. Wherever she was. I thought as I remembered how she died.

FLASHBACK

She was at home polishing her antiques when a supervillian named The Blade attacked her while I was just coming back from school. He was a tall man with black hair, a black party mask and two swords with a menacing feature. He wanted a particular item from my aunty which was precious to her. He wanted a particular crown from her but she refused to give him. She tried to run away but he blocked her path with his menacing body. Then he tied her up. He went round the house looking for the crown but he could not find it because it was in a safe in a secret hideout I made with Aunty Anna and could only be opened by me. He was infuriated so stabbed my aunty in the chest just as I walked into the house. He took her wedding ring from her finger and pushed me on the floor on his way out. I was shocked and I became terrified as I saw my aunty all tied up gasping her last in her pool of blood. I tossed my school bag as I rushed to her aid. She smiled as tears rushed from our eyes. We had been through a lot together but this was the height of it all.

"My sweet little angel," She said, "Princesses don't cry, now wipe your teary eyes. My time is near and you have to be on your own but promise me that you will always be happy no matter what. Promise your dear aunty that you will be independent."

I nodded as I stroked her hair and let my tears stream down.

"Your parents loved you even more than I love you and I know you will find them when the time is right. Bast will help you. Still be the resilient, happy and thoughtful girl that you are. I am going to see your uncle. I love you". And with that she breathed her last. I kissed her forehead and cried for a while. My aunty has been the only one there for me. She was the only one I had. I had to call our pastor and explain what had happened. I also called the police who came with an ambulance that carried my aunt's body away. I was being interrogated by the police for 2 hours.

FLASHBACK ENDS

This just happened last week Friday and I had been coping well in school and no one knew until the police informed my principal yesterday and he told me that no child of thirteen, no matter how matured that child is, could live on their own and I have to be put in an orphanage home. I tried to negotiate things but I didn't have other relatives so that effort was to no avail.

I normally patrol the city of Horizon alone as The Feline and I always tell Aunty Anna about it. But now she's gone and there's no one to talk to. I haven't been quite okay because the day before was my aunt's funeral and I have decided to move to another city. I used my aunt's credit card and took as much money as I needed and I just decided to look around the house once more before I leave. I strolled to my aunt's bedroom and laid there when I got to the house. I cried for a bit then I carried a few of my belongings and kept them in a shrink box that my aunty made. She was an engineer before she passed away. And I kept it in the utility belt she made for me. I also grabbed a few too many of my weapons and kept them in a different shrink box. I locked the door of the house from the inside. Then I opened a window slightly so only a kitten could pass through. I cleared my throat and meowed. There was a puff of purple smoke and I was a little kitty cat. I jumped on the window sill and made my way out on the road. I didn't know how far I wanted to go but I wanted to go really far away.
