you sat at the edge of the bridge with a frustrated sigh. you'd been wandering for hours by now, and you still didn't seem to be getting anywhere. which wasn't surprising, given that you barely even knew your own name, but still.

the city in the distance scared you. it was big and loud and busy, all things you had no idea how to deal with. you were beginning to think it was your only hope to making any progress, though.

you kicked your feet, staring down into the void below you. you didn't want to leave this quiet, peaceful place. maybe you should try reading your journal one more time...

oh yes, journal. the only thing near you- aside from your clothes, which were a simple combination of a white shirt and black pants- was a strange journal. you didn't understand any of it, but it did have what you assumed was your name on the front, y/n. you shifted the leather-bound book into your lap and flipped through the pages. you still didn't understand any of the words, and the diagrams were even more confusing.

you sighed again and swung your legs back onto the walkway. no point in delaying much longer. you stood up, tucking your journal back under your arm. you set off walking, humming all the way. you still didn't see anyone else, but that was alright- for the best, even.

you stepped around what seemed to be a disabled puzzle, making your way towards the city. you hopped in a set of three teacups and rode up to a higher platform, then continued on your journey. eventually, you reached a sign welcoming you to the city. the bright lights hurt your ears and the city noises drowned out your humming.

so yeah, it was about as miserable as you expected. it somehow got worse when you had to interact with a random person. they were a bit shorter than you, with chunky arms and legs and two... horns? they were wearing a suit as well. you weren't really sure what they were, but it didn't matter. what did matter was that they looked like a local. maybe they could give you directions or something.

you walked up to them. "um... hello. do you know where i can buy some food?"

they tilted their head. "why are you asking me?" before you could answer, they continued, "though you should be able to get food somewhere over... there." they gestured the way you had already been going. "i know there's a shopping district over there."

"oh. thank you." you hurried off in that direction, avoiding anyone else where you could. when you came across a road, you took a running leap over the cars, not really wanting to try and work the nightmarish system the city had set up. meanwhile, you looked at the signs and buildings around you. none of them were selling food, but you kept looking anyways.

eventually, you saw a sign that informed you, [Coffee Shop!] a large arrow pointed down a suspicious-looking alleyway. by now, though, you were too hungry to really care about getting mugged.

you shifted your book to the front so you could use it to bludgeon someone, should the need arise. after peering into the alley for a second, you walked into it.

you were immediately confused and concerned by the layout of it. several alleyways branched off from the one you'd originally gone into.

as you tried to decide where to go, another coffee shop sign popped up pointing forwards. "thanks," you said aloud, walking forwards.

as you delved further into the alleyway, the noise of the city faded away to silence. this wasn't good silence, though. it felt... oppressive, almost threatening. you wouldn't let it intimidate you, though. instead, you sang into the empty air with something that could only be described as nightmare fuel.

"hush now, hide, all you little ones. rush now, into the middle of nowhere," you sang softly, almost like a lullaby. "singing and laughter will die..."

"dreamless sleep follows the nowhere king. when his kingdom comes, darkness is nigh," you continued as you walked. "quiet, crawl to the in-between; silent, secretive feeling of fearsome hatred that reaches the sky."

if you hadn't been singing, you would've heard a rustle from one of the garbage cans nearby. but you were, and you didn't, so instead you just wrapped up the song. "you will bring joy to the nowhere king when he sees the light leaving your eyes...~"

there was no coffee shop in sight, even though you were done singing. you wondered where it was- actually, where were you?

your rising panic was cut off by the sound of clapping. "BRAV0, BRAv O, [[Valued Customer]]!"

you whipped around. "who the hell are you?!"

a short puppet wearing two-toned glasses and a black v-neck grinned up at you. "THAT' S NO WAY TO [[Season'sGreetings!]] A [[Friend Request Accepted]]."

a/n: ooOOoOO spooky cliffhanger. anyways im extremely tired so im Going The Fuck To Sleep now. enjoy this pile of hot garbage lmao
