I lay back on the grass and sighed. For a while now nothing had gone right. Just a few minutes ago for example, I'd had an argument with Mum. The same questions she refused to answer. why had I never seen my Dad? Why didn't I do things normally? Actually what was normal? Why did my life have to be such a mystery? Anyway I'm Ella and I live out in the country with my Mum.

I looked up at the stars. Part of the sky was obscured by cloud, but the cloud was moving away. At that moment the moon appeared from behind the cloud. It was a full moon and to me the moonlight felt strangely warm and comforting. I had no time to enjoy it. At that second I was thrown into the air.

I landed on the cold damp earth with a soft thump. Something was different. I opened my eyes and gasped. I was lying on the ground in a weird tangle of green stalks. Slowly I pulled myself to my feet. Where was I? Suddenly I got scared. What if I was delirious or... or was I going crazy?! Something was wrong with me. I wouldn't just appear in an alien world randomly. I needed help and I needed it fast. Suddenly I heard a deafening noise that can only be described as a buzz. It seemed as if the thing that was making it was coming closer. It seemed right above me now, but I was too scared to look up.

Then a simply enormous creature landed in front of me. The first thing I noticed was it's eyes. They reminded me of those silver balls they hang up at a disco, reflecting me a thousand times. It's tongue curved out of it's mouth and rested on the ground. The thing's wings were beating so fast they were a blur.

Then I fled, pushing my way through the huge tangled mess of green stalks. I trod on some dark green stuff a bit like grass, but I kept on going. Finally I stopped. My bare feet were stinging and I was panting for breath.

It had to still be after me. I hadn't run far enough or fast enough. My heart was beating so loudly I felt sure it would give me away, but slowly my heart rate slowed down. I started thinking about the animal I had seen.

It reminded me of something and I couldn't think what that something was. The noise it made was just so familiar. I thought for a long time before I realised. The creature I had seen was a giant fly! This strange world I was in had giant flies in it. "Or..." I said aloud. I looked around at the forest of tangled green stalks I was in. Then I realised. I had shrunk. I was tiny! The fly was huge compared to me. I forced myself not to panic, but I couldn't help wondering if I would ever see my Mum again.

I had to do something. My Mum had no idea what had happened. Somehow I had to tell her. I had to get into the house. After thinking for a bit I decided what to do. I would climb a piece of grass to see where my house was, then I would walk there, somehow get onto the deck and then think about getting into the house.

I looked around for a suitable piece of grass. Soon I'd found a good enough one that was almost straight up in the air and quite tall. Normally grass was just a bit rough, but when you were this size those tiny bumps made it possible to climb some pieces of grass. The only problem was this one looked quite unclimbable.

I studied the surface of the blade of grass, knowing there was nothing else to do. Then I grabbed the grass and scrambled up. I was surprised by my agility as I climbed. It seemed almost effortless to pull myself up.

Soon I was at the top of the piece of grass. It was taller then I had originally thought and I could see my house not that far away. So I clambered down the blade of grass and set off in that direction. After a while I started for the first time, to feel lonely. I wanted someone else to share this. Someone to help me get through it. All I wanted was company, even just to see someone would have been good enough for me.

I kept going in the same direction, clambering over grass and rocks. Every now and then I would climb up a blade of grass to check if I was going in the right direction. I had been doing this for a little while when I noticed something small and white, half buried in the dirt. After excavating it I realised it was a small and very pretty ring that, surprisingly, was my size. It was silver and set with a single, pure white stone. The stone, I noticed, seemed to shine and reminded me straight away of the moon.
