Dohoon looked over to the girl lying on the other side of the bed, almost pressed up against the wall as if she were trying to get it to absorb herself.

Aji's still asleep, he thought, his mind drifting in and out between the state of consciousness and sleep.
He started to shift into a more comfortable position. The girl under the covers stirred.

His mind started to wander off again into the territory of conflicted feelings, making his chest feel tight and uncomfortably warm.

Dohoon tossed and turned on the sheets, trying to find a comfortable position. For some reason, his usual positions just weren't doing the trick.

He froze when Aji started to lift her head above the covers.
"Mm..." She rubbed her eyes, voice dripping with sleep, "Wuht are you doingh?" She questioned sleepily.

"Uh? Um...Ah-!" Dohoon flinched, getting nervous all of a sudden.
"I was just- no I mean, sorry to bother you Aji! I was trying to find a comfortable spot! And um-" he continued mumbling and fidgeting with his fingers.

Why do I feel so lost all of a sudden? He thought to himself. Why can't I speak properly?

Aji stared at him for a bit through drowsy reddish brown eyes, then turned towards the wall again.
"Ok, just try not to wake me up next time...." She drawled, already asleep by the end of the sentence.

"...."

Dohoon kept staring at her form underneath the pristine white sheets.
Some of her dirty brown hair was sticking out, looking even more messier than usual.

He wanted to talk to her. Badly. About his situation.
But he just couldn't make himself do it.

Up until the last few days, everything had been normal, things were going as usual. And he supposed they still were.

Kyumin and Aji still bickered over everything, as usual. Ryang still dropped pick-up lines at all the girls in their class. Of course they were all still uninterested in him.

Dowoo had once again disappeared off somewhere in the mountains to live with his 'mother', Isabella, who was a bear which had been alive for over 200 years now. He still had no idea how that had happened.

Bear drinkers???

They still attended school and hung out with their friends. But the past few days, something had changed. Between him and Min Aji, the Eater who was 'raising' him.

The air was thick with tension and unspoken questions. They barely talked, aside from their usual greetings.

Most nights, they'd sleep beside each other, enjoying the others' warmth.
Except now, they'd distanced themselves to separate sides of the bed, like tonight.

Dohoon missed that a lot. But he didn't want to come closer to her if she didn't like it.

His eyes fell upon the cheesy Halloween themed calender on the wall beside the door. It was just one of the many "hate gifts" Kyumin had given Aji for ticking him off or almost blowing up the house that one time she tried to make instant ramen.

Even in the dim lighting, he could make out the big red circle around the date of his birthday.

His 20th birthday. And the similarly colored X's slowly marking off the days until his birthday.

A shiver ran through him. Everytime he looked at that calendar, he would feel an indescribable emotion.
It wasn't happiness, sadness, fear or even indifference.

No. It was something he couldn't put his finger on. He once again glanced at the sleeping form of the Eater pressed to the wall.

Dohoon's sleep had now been washed away, instead replaced with images of Min Aji, the Eater, tearing into his supple flesh, twisting and licking his bones, savouring the taste of warm flesh of a Grade-A human.
