The Hogwarts express was silent, except for one compartment. Everyone was sleeping, except for one group of friends.
Alexia felt like an outsider in the compartment. It was her first year and her sister and her friends were in their second year.
They were all talking and laughing while Alexia looked out the window silently.
"Lex are you okay?" She hear the voice of her best friend.
Draco Malfoy. They have been best friends since they were in diapers. She knew she could always count on Draco when she needed someone.
"Yeah I'm fine I'm just nervous." She said softly.
"There's no need to be nervous Lexi. Hogwarts is amazing!" Her sister said wrapping an arm around her.
Pansy Parkinson. She was a great sister. She always put her little sister first. Alexia and Pansy were extremely close. She couldn't ask for a better sister.
"Will you guys still be friends with me if I'm not sorted into Slytherin?" She asked looking at the three boys in the compartment.
"Of course Alex!" One of them said hugging her.
"Alex, I would never stop being friends with you because of your house." The other said softly.
Blaise Zabini and Theodore Nott. They started coming over everyday during the summer break along with Draco. They were like alexias older brother and they would always protect her, no matter what.
Alexia knew what the kids at school said about her sister and friends but she didn't care.
"Lex, you've been my best friend since before we could walk. That isn't going to change because of your house." Draco said softly.
"I love you guys." Alexia said smiling.
"And we love you." Pansy said hugging her little sister.
It was silent for a few minutes. It was a comfortable silence.
"We're gonna go get some food." Blaise said standing up with Theo.
"I'm gonna go find Daph and wake her up. I haven't talked to her all summer." Pansy said walking out behind them.
It was just Draco and Alexia in the compartment now. They had been alone plenty times before but for some reason this time Draco was extremely nervous.
"Are you tired?" Draco asked softly.
Alexia just nodded in response.
"Lay your head on my shoulder and get some sleep. I'll wake you up when we get to Hogwarts." He said quietly.
Alexia just smiled and layed her head on her best friends shoulder as he wrapped his arm around her protectively. She fell into a much needed sleep with a smile on her face.
Draco admired his best friend sleeping on his shoulder. He loved her more than he could ever explain. He didn't know why but he felt the need to protect her at all times. He didn't know if it was because he knew her his whole life and grew up with her or if it was because that's how his parents raised him. One thing he did know, was that he would never let anyone hurt this girl.
Draco rested his head on hers falling asleep himself. Only to be woken up moments later by his roommates coming back in the compartment
followed by his best friends sister."Malfoy, do you like my sister?" Pansy whispered.
"I always have Pans." He whispered. "She's so beautiful and kind. She's going to be a Hufflepuff for sure. Anytime she's around I feel the need to protect her from any danger. I get butterflies everytime she looks at me, smiles, laughs, god even when she talks. Everytime she touches me, even if it's just a small tap to get my attention, I feel tingles where her hand was. When she cries, I feel my own heart break. She's perfect."
"Don't hurt my sister D." Pansy smiled softly.
"Never." Draco said subconsciously massaging Alexia's scalp.
A little while later Alexia felt someone shaking her and her eyes fluttered open.
"Lex were here." Draco said softly.
Alexia shot up and looked out the window to see the castle.
"It's beautiful." She whispered. "Come on Draco! Let's go!"
She pulled her best friend off the train and into the castle.
Alexia was speechless as she admired the place she would call home.
The sorting ceremony was boring. Alexia waited so impatiently for her name to be called. Until-
"Alexia Parkinson." Professor McGonagall said.
Alexia's head shot up. She hugged Draco and ran up to the front and sat on the stool as the hat placed itself on her head.
"Ah another Parkinson." The hat said loudly. "Your not like the rest of your family, no, your kind hearted and shy. I know exactly where to put you."
The hat went silent for a few moments making Alexia nervous.
"Hufflepuff!" The hat yelled.
Alexia stood up and smiled sadly at her friends before running over to the Hufflepuff table.
"Hi I'm Cedric." A boy with brown hair said. "Cedric Diggory."
"I'm Alexia. But most of my friends call me Alex or Lexi." She said with a smile.
She wasn't going to tell him the 'Lex' was also one of her nicknames. That name was reserved for Draco. Only he could call her that.
Draco watched as his best friend smiled and laughed with Cedric, an unfamiliar feeling forming in the pit of his stomach.
Alexia looked over at the Slytherin table and smiled at Draco but he just rolled his eyes.
Great he hates me now because i wasn't sorted into Slytherin.
Alexia looked down at her plate. The food had arrived at the table but she was no longer hungry.
Draco noticed that Alexia wasn't eating and immediately got concerned.
After the feast was over Alexia ran out in the hall to find Draco.
"Draco!" She said grabbing his hand. "Do you hate me because I didn't get Slytherin?"
"Lex, I told you on the train. Your house does not matter to me. You will always be my best friend." Draco said softly.
"Then why did you roll your eyes when I smiled at you?" She asked looking at the ground.
"Alexia, is that why you weren't eating?" He asked feeling guilty.
Alexia just nodded, sniffling some.
Draco lifted her head up, his heart broke when he saw her crying. Because of him.
"Alexia, I rolled my eyes because." He started talking. "I like you Alexia. I have for years. And seeing you laugh and smile with Cedric like that made me jealous."
"Y-you like me?" She asked finally looking at him.
"Yeah." He said softly.
"I like you too Draco. I always have." She said smiling.
"Come here puff." He said holding his arms out for a hug.
She hugged him back for a few moments before he broke away.
"It's almost curfew." He whispered. "Come on I'll walk you to your common room."
Alexia smiled as she walked through the corridors hand in hand with her best friend.
"Goodnight princess." Draco said kissing her forehead. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Goodnight Dray." Alexia said walking into the Hufflepuff common room.
Everything changed for them that night...
