When Mikael killed Klaus's soulmate, Fate changed. A thousand years later, he meets his second chance, Sam Winchester, many times over the course of twenty years.

Niklaus Mikaelson and Siegfried Björnsson had been more than best friends since they were children. Sadly, no one approved of how close they were. Neither Niklaus nor Siegfried had ever pursued a girl, choosing to spend all their time together.

Mikael thought he had beat the unnatural affections out of Klaus, but it didn't work. Instead, they learned to better hide their relationship.

It all went to hell the day the Mikaelson children were turned into vampires. As the person nearest to him, Mikael killed Siegfried in a fit of blind rage when he learned of Esther's infidelity. It wasn't until the village vacated after the Mikaelson Slaughter that Mikael realized he killed his pseudo-son. It angered him even further, going as far as to blame Klaus and hunt him down.

Klaus holds onto a hatred of Mikael to this day, never once ceasing. It made him seethe and his blood boil in rage when he remembers the pale, bloody face of his lover.

Samuel Winchester was the second son of John and Mary Winchester. He was the gifted son, the perfect child. Where Dean was a trouble maker, Sam was a pacifist. Where Dean was street smart, Sam was book smart. Where Dean was a different type of smart, Sam was the brightest, most distinctively intelligent of the two.

All of his life, Sam had been treated differently. He knew he wasn't like other kids.

Normal kids didn't see and hear things that weren't there.

Normal kids couldn't write a college thesis by age nine.

Normal kids hated silence.

Normal kids hated school.

Normal kids struggled with learning sometimes.

Normal kids had friends.

Normal kids lived for amusement parks and loud, sweet, and colorful things.

Normal kids...they understand emotions.

Sam, Sam was different. He couldn't feel emotions.

Sam didn't know what strong love felt like. He didn't know why Dean was so upset when John and Mary left for long periods of time.

He didn't cry when he was hurt or when he was sad. Sure, he knew that scraping his knee on the pavement made him bleed, but he didn't feel anything.

He knew his parents cared for him, and he did too, but he didn't know what that was supposed to mean. And he didn't feel anything when his father told him his mother was killed.

It made him the outsider in school. The weird, unemotional kid who had an uncanny knack for knowing what you were thinking and was light years beyond a normal intelligence. And he was bullied tremendously for it. Dean would constantly pick fights with his bullies even though he knew Sam couldn't be hurt by it.

All he wanted was to feel normal.
