Early One Sunday morning, Mother and Max were preparing for their Picnic. They had been planning this picnic for months now to get everything right and ready for that Sunday morning. They had invited some of Max's friends from school along with their parents. They were making sandwiches, pies, folding and packing blankets, cups, plates, forks, and knives all in their picnic baskets. Max was so excited to eat and play with his friends in the park near their picnic spot.
While they were packing things into their car, gloomy clouds started streaming slowly above their heads. Max was too excited to notice but Mother noticed right away. She didn't mention it because she thought that it would quickly drag the smile off her son's face. Away from Max, Mother called the other parents to warn them that they were showing signs of rain. It wasn't long before raindrops started falling and Max ran inside soaked and on the verge of tears because of the rain. The rain continued for a few minutes and Max's tears just keep flowing with disappointment. He had been looking forward to this picnic, to the games, to the food and it was all falling apart. Mother saw that Max was heartbroken and that made her cry on the inside, but she had a plan.
Mother privately called the other parents and told them to meet her and Max at another location further from their home. She told them to tell their children that they would go for ice cream to replace the picnic, but then really surprise the children by going to another picnic spot and enjoying the picnic they had planned. When Max heard the news of ice cream he was thrilled but still upset that he couldn't see his friends. When he arrived though, that disappointment changed quickly when he saw his friends and their parents. Max, his mother, his friends, and their parents enjoyed that day very well. For Max, it was the best day ever!!
