The End

You are more important, Evette.

“Miss Ashford. Please come back to earth.” a very angry voice startled me, I looked around just to find Sammy with a worried expression.

Taking in the surroundings, I realised, I actually zoned out. Again. This was most probably the fourth time that Oliver's voice crept through my mind, making me feel guilty again.

“Sorry, Sir. I was,” I mumbled, to which the professor smirked, as he shooed me out of the class, though he was still running the same slide that he had been running for the last fifteen minutes.

It's all because of me. My subconscious was at war with me, telling me to amend the situation. It had been four days since Oliver's suspension, and only one thing was on my mind was what Oliver had said that night.

That boy actually put all of his hard work, his grades, his family's reputation and most importantly his career at stake just for me.

I looked at my watch, and when I had forty more minutes to pass, I decided to go to the principal's office.

I wasn't going to take a back seat and watch.

I entered the office after hearing a soft ‘come in’. “Sir, I am sorry to disturb you, but I need to talk to you.”

“About?”

“About Oliver.”

“And,” from the voice I could say he was pretty intrigued.

“And here is the proof, Sir.” I took out the prescription from my bag and placed it on the table in front of him.

“It's the prescription, Sir, Dave actually punched me, and then only Oliver started the fight just to protect me...or Dave could have...but then Oliver took me to this doctor, who prescribed me these medicines. That's the reason Sir, we came back a little later than normal.”

“Hmm. So why now Miss Ashford? Why didn't you say anything before?” I rolled my eyes inwardly, this fat and little bald man actually had all the logic stacked up in his brain.

“I was scared Sir, and secondly Oliver taking all the blame suddenly, left me with a blank mind. I tried to tell you the truth but I actually forgot about the prescription. Or I would have,” I pondered, hoping he would believe me.

“So, now what do you want me to do?” He sounded bored again. And I almost asked whether it was his nature to be bored all the time.

“Reconsider Sir. It's already been four days. If you terminate Oliver's suspension,” I tried to sound as polite as I could.

“Hmm.” He set his reading glasses on his nose as if it was some million dollar possession, “So why didn't you two call the supervisor that both of you are going to be late? And, Miss Ashford, do you realise, you suddenly come here that too after four days, it definitely means you are at fault as Oliver was, which certainly implies that I have to call your family and let them know about you being injured and of course the whole Dave fiasco?”

Thinking about my family, my heart jumped a little. Till now all I was thinking about was Oliver. But what about my family?! Mostly what about my Gramps, he had one big dream when he sent me here to be an engineer, without paying attention to his debts. If he would get a call from my college then he was definitely going to assume the worst.

“But, Sir,”

“Rules are rules, Miss Ashford. We have to do what is mandatory.”
