Perhaps it was driving that made it easier in the end. After all, it was the thing that was his, but theirs at the same time. Being so close to someone, yet so far away. He could still feel his hands; see the way they would grip the string wheel. The way his mouth would focus on the driving and his eyes controlled of emotions, staring far in the distance, yet focused on the people. It was particular, how fast he fell in love. He who promised he would never do something so outrageous, was the one who fell victim to it, and maybe it was the overflow of memories that allowed the mistake to happen. A small, amateur mistake. It should have been engraved into his head, positioned first every time he sat behind the wheel. But he didn't, he forgot to do it. You could only see the frightened and terrified faces of the passengers, thinking it was their time to die. But he wasn't bothered. He could feel something was wrong and just at the last second looked to his left. Lights flashed into his eyes and it took him just a moment, a split of a second, a look of recognition before realizing what happened. Funnily enough, he always thought that love would kill him. And at the end it did. He smiled at that, the next moment glass was colliding with the ground creating an unpleasant sound, tires screeching didn't help one bit as the crowd of screaming people entered the cross-section.
The next morning it was in the news. "Bus crashed after driving into a cross-section while having a red light. The truck cut its path short when it collided with the driver's side. Everyone got out alive with minor injuries, unfortunately the bus driver Alex Mint wasn't so lucky. He was pronounced dead on impact." The usually loud and chatting breakroom was filled with silence and gasps. Everyone knew Alex, one of them particularly well. While others eyes were filled with sorrow and sadness, Theo's were filled with grief and throat tightened with the greatest sobs.
