EMPOWERED

Chapter 1

No one's POV

It is hard being yourself when everybody doesn't want you to be. My name is Serina Williams and this is my story about stepping out of the shadows and loving myself no matter how different I am I hope this inspires you to do the same.

In the year of 2022, the world discovered that people with special power existed and that everything they thought to be fiction was real. Everyone had a different opinion some were fascinated, some were jealous of those who had powers and some were afraid of what they were capable of so the government made new rules and regulations for the empowered. Most empowered were enraged since the new rules were too extensive.

A few of the empowered formed a group called Dark Vision and started robbing banks and stealing from people. In the month of August an empower was caught in the act of killing an innocent man. Since then the public view of the empowered changed the public and the government considered them extremely dangerous. After that events some of the people started to find out that they were empowered. The few that were already known to the public went into hiding.

It was the year 2027 and it was a Monday morning when Serina was rushing towards her work despite me being early. She works for The Inridge city bank. It was a normal morning for Serina helping people organize their bank accounts and more when something she never thought would happen, happened. The bank was in the process of getting robbed by famous criminals known for hitting banks.

As soon as they said everybody on the ground Serina immediately got on the floor. She was shaking in fear but not because of the robbers instead because when her heart beat increases sometimes her hidden powers act up. Serina was so focused on controlling her heart beat she failed to notice one of the robbers approaching her. "Hey you put your wallet and all your jewelry in the bag!" He shouted.

After giving him everything she put her hand back on the ground. When he noticed that she still had on her necklace he said "Do you think I'm stupid put in the necklace too." While putting the gun he was holding towards her. Serina refused to give him the necklace since it was from her mother and said she would rather die.

The robber was so pissed off at her that he immediately fired his gun but at the same time a wall of ice sprouted in front of Serina blocking the bullets. Since the robber saw her, Serina started to quickly crawl away from him and hid. After the robber ran away in fear the rest of were confused but also ran away when they heard the sirens. Serina then checked to see if anyone saw her which luckily no one did so she pretended like no of that happened.

The police informed everyone at the bank that after what happened that all the employees were dismissed for the day so Serina went home that day replaying what happened in her head. Before today she was afraid of her powers but now after seeing how it protected her for the first time in her life she felt safe. At 8:00 p.m. she was on her bed taking a nap in her flat when she heard the door bell ring.

When she opened the door she saw her twin brother Lucas standing outside looking sad. "What's wrong, are you all right?" She asked with a worried look on her face. "Not at all, I got dumped by my girlfriend." He said sadly. "Naomi! I really thought that you two were great with each other." She yelled in shock. "I know but apparently I was too focused on my work." He said while walking into her flat.

Lucas is a big time lawyer who handles foster children and abused children since the two of them went foster to foster home. "Well you know what, how about me watch the titanic and cry our hearts out because you lost your girlfriend and I accidently used my powers." She said normally. "Okay- Wait what!!!" He yelled in surprise. "What did you do didn't we agree that we wouldn't use our powers.

"I know but a bank robber tried to kill me and it just happened." She said explaining herself "Are you okay why didn't you tell me earlier!" He said while checking to see if I was okay and then she said. "I'm okay I just hope that nobody saw me or else trouble." Her brother knew that she was internally freaking out but didn't want to show it so he just left it as it was and tomorrow he would check to see if they have any proof.

After calming down they watched the titanic and cried and later that night Lucas left to go back home which left Serina alone with her thoughts. 'What if someone saw me today, what if the security camera recorded me using my powers, what if I go to jail, what if everybody found out I'm one of the empowered, What if. That night Serina stayed up only thinking of and coming up with solutions to them.

The next day Serina looked up from her computer and saw the sun was out and she was remembered that she had work today. 'Great today I'll have to pretend nothing is wrong' She took a bath and changed her clothes into her work uniform. After she was dressed she grabbed her bag and headed to work.

On her way to work she called her best friend Stacy Rogers and told that she would be running a bit late for work so to please cover for her. When she arrived at work she went into her boss' office "Sorry I'm late boss I overslept." She apologized. "With what happened yesterday it's okay just don't let it happen again okay." Her boss Richard Reyes said.

She nodded before going to her desk to get started on working. The whole morning period Serina was looking over her shoulder waiting for the Empowered Association to come for her. The Empowered Association was created for the purpose of identifying and find Empowered and checking to see if they were a danger to anyone.

With her powers she would me put on the dangerous list and be given a power enabler so she would be unable to use her power. While she was afraid of her powers on the rare occasion that she used it she warm and at home her powers were a part of her and she didn't want them to take that away. Or even worse when they discover you're an Empowered they check all your living or dead relatives to see if they have powers and with Lucas' fire power he would definitely also be put on the dangerous list.

During her lunch break Serina was still anxious but slowly starting to think that maybe nobody found out. Then her brother called her. "Hey did you find out yet?" She asked now getting more anxious. "Good news nobody found out that you are an empowered so you're good." He said. After hearing that sentence Serina let out a heavy sigh of relieve that even she didn't know she was holding back.

"But bad news the robber who saw you use your powers he reported it to his boss who is a known as an Empowered." That sentence alone made Serina's heart stop. "Are you saying that a that a robber who is also an Empowered how worse can this get. "I'm leaving work early so should you because you are moving into my house." He said leaving her no room to decline. So in shock that her brain could barely think all she said was one word okay.
