~XD's pov~

"That's enough! This trial will take a short resess. Everyone is to meet back here tomorrow at 8 a.m. Sharp."

The judge slams a large book on his pedestal, determined to cut through the frenzy of shouts that had disrupted his courtroom.

Even as I sit alone, in complete silence, trying to pull my mask more over my face in an attempt to disappear into thin air, I still feel guilty.

I hadn't done anything. But it felt like it.

It felt like every mistake he made reflected my character.

I was nothing. No one without him. And yet, I couldn't see what he had done until it was too late to protect him.

I steal a glance at my older brother. He had never looked so furious, and drained, like something was pulling the life out of him, taking his fighting spirit with it.

That was reflected as the days dragged on, the room had become more crowed, but also more quiet. He was giving in to arguments against him so easily, and for what?

He was tired, the crown on his head was weighing him down. As his guard, his personal solider, I understand.

He told me everything. No one even knew who I was, but he told me everything. I know why he did it too...

For I am not a prince, but a guard. A person created for war, a no one.

But he trusted me... I don't know why, but he did. He told me thing he would dare tell no one else, not even our own mother.

Dream...

People trickled out of the room, leaving to prepare for the next, and final day of the prosecution.

I rise, lifting the snow toned coat beside me, and pass it to my older brother. As he looked up at me, he moved his mask to the side, reveling his face as the two of us were left alone in the darkening room.

His dark green eyes were so, very tired, almost pleading to be put out of the misery that he was suffering. His blonde hair was messy, and he looked sickly. Yet he wore an appreciative look as he stood and took the jacket from me.

The two of us walk out of the room in silence. Side by side, just as a king and his knight should be.

No one would dare come near my brother now, not with me around. My uniform was tight-fitting, as to show the strength of my lord's knight. Although, I was also permitted to wear a hooded cloak.

Just one, a green one, the one that my brother had gifted to me.

As we left the building, Dream pull his mask back over his face, the smile giving the allusion that he was alright. He had to be. If he wasn't, he had to fake it. We had to fake it.

Or else his kingdom would crumble faster than it already was.

"Hey, XD..?"

I snap my attention to him, my sharp gaze unfazed as I nod, an indicator that I was listening.

"Are you alright?" He asked.

I nod again, curious to see where our discussion will go today.

"Like always..." He sighed. "You know, you don't always have to be like that."

"Be like what..?" I inquire quietly, not wanting to seem rude in the presence of my lord.

"Like, that. You're a prince, you know? We are one in the same bloodline. You don't have to act like a servant. I have plenty of those, brother."

He doesn't understand... Of course he doesn't.

I'm no prince. I'm hardly worthy of being called a person. I live to protect him, as I live to serve. That's what I was taught, and that is what I live by.

After him, I'll serve my sister. She may not be with us yet, but she will be a fine god.

He has been blessed with a brilliant heir.

"Nothing to say?" He scoffed.

"It's not that, I apologize. However, I'm barely worthy of being a member of your family, so please, don't address me as such."

"Stop that. I don't care what Mother said to you when we were kids. You are my brother, and you are the prince of my kingdom."

The two of us reached the palace, entering its grand hallways.

We walk in silence for a while, as we navigate several hallways and stairwells.

I escort my brother to his room, leaving him to prepare for tomorrow.

"Go, get some sleep." He called back as I began to leave.

I will do as he says, although, very reluctantly.

Staying up for days at a time is an easy take for me, and it's a safe option for him.

I enter the room parallel to his.

The bare, plain room, decorated by a few scattered weapons, the curtains leading to the balcony, and a single bed.

The magic I had been using all day fades, and I change into a simple nightshirt. I ruffle my fluffy, white hair that was now free of the hood of my cloak. It will always stand out against my midnight colored skin. The snow toned tips of my fingers looked like stars agains the rest of my hands...

I walk across the plain room, and curl up on the bed, drifting off into a restless slumber.
