It was difficult you know, waking up almost every year with nobody to spend Christmas with. Everyone is singing, laughing and kissing under the mistletoe, homes being decked-out in tinsel and fake snow. But for Adam, it was just another day. He usually plays the tag along, the friend they allowed over that their families weren't familiar with, accompanying alongside couples who made their point of just how annoying his presence was. December was the annual reminder of his loneliness, one he couldn't just dismiss or drink his way through either.
But not this year, this year was special.
It is December 24th.
Adam can't recall the last time he felt this giddy about waking up on Christmas Eve morning. Probably back when he preferred action figures over a pack of cigarettes."Lawrence?" Adam whispers over to his boyfriend. Lawrence's eyes remain shut, his breathing steady even with Adam's pesky poking. "Such an old man."
It's been a while since Lawrence managed to get time off work, so letting him sleep wasn't a completely horrible idea. The Doctor seemed to be in more of a relationship with his job rather than Adam, so you could forgive Adam for his excitement this morning. For now, the least that he could do is appreciate Larry's presence, even if it was a sleepy one.
The restless Adam lay on his back, fingers tapping away whilst staring up at the off-white ceiling. Lawrence really ought to paint that, he thought. Adam shifts his focus over to Lawrence again, and then his phone, which he uses to keep himself occupied for the time being. Whilst he is scrolling aimlessly, he comes across an unusual message from his brother David.
Good luck with what?
Right before he is to type out a reply, Adam's attention is stolen by a photo sent by Daniel Matthews. Curiously, he taps his way onto the group chat, he might as well pass the time by chatting with everyone.
What's everyone's deal? Weirdos.
Adam didn't finish typing out his puzzled response, he is too distracted by a stirring Lawrence stretching out beside him.
Lawrence grunts out, yawning noisily as he always does when he wakes up, this causes the side of Adam's mouth to twitch.
"Merry Christmas Eve you old fuck," Adam greets, setting his phone down before smothering his boyfriend. He can detect a festive calmness across his own chest, it has been present all December, a feeling Adam couldn't place until Lawrence invited him to spend Christmas together.
