love herself
as the sun rose up on this summer day in liverpool, a broken girl lay entangled up in the sheets that were once shared by another. the dried up tears were still present on her cheeks as her puffed up eyes were just opening to face the day.
confusion was spread across her face when she felt about for a body that was usually laying right beside her. the confusion soon became sadness as she remembered the events that had occurred merely a week ago.
for some that would be considered a long time but for this girl, the wounds were still raw and new. her eyes refused to leak anymore tears as she believed that there were no more to release. her phone lay smashed in the corner after throwing due to last nights events.
she still remembered the words he had said to make her in such a vulnerable state. she knew his emotions were high after her suffered a big defeat from his match but the constant hurling of insults was enough for her to completely break down and cry.
she found the smallest bit of energy she had left and lifted herself off the rather large bed, too big for just one person. the dark cloud hung over her as she walked down the hallway into the clean white bathroom. in the hallway hung pictures of her previous lover, his eyes felt like they were following her as she shut the bathroom door with force.
she slid down the door until her bottom hit the tiles floor. she closed her eyes but the killer smile that he possessed was still imprinted in her mind, and would probably be there for quite some time. she tried to bang her head, not too hard though, to try and erase the memories but to no avail.
instead, she once again lifted herself up and clung onto the sink she had stressed cleaned the day before. her bony hands reached for the cold knob and turned it anti-clockwise so she could wash her face. after cleansing every part of her face, she reached for a towel but stopped when she saw who's it was.
the name 'Ben G' was imprinted at the bottom of the cotton towel in fancy calligraphic writing. she clutched onto it before into a towel rack and knocking it down. she let out a frustrated cry and looked up.
staring at her was her own reflection. she looked away at first but her gaze found it's way back to the square reflector. as she ogled her own eyes she never realised the golden fleck that they had in the sunlight.
she smiled at the thought, and when she smiled, she noticed the small dimple that could be seen in the left side of her face. she slid her finger into the dent before she began to feel her whole face. it was only now she realised how clear her skin had become since her teenage years and boy did she love it.
it was only on this morning that she had realised that her face, although it wasn't perfect, was one that she wouldn't change for the world. she had a smile that also possessed dimples, a forehead that wasn't too big but wasn't too small either, eyes that literally shone in light, and a pointed nose that fit her face ideally.
from that day on, as soon as she left that bathroom, was when she grasped it: if he couldn't love her for who she was, she'll learn to love herself.
